Best way to learn the 5k

whattup yall, i've been making beats for two years now using Logic Pro and my cousin is blessing me with a 5k that he has and can't return (don't ask lol). i wanted to get into hardware anyway.


I know manuals are great for consulting and eveything, but how did you guys first learn how to use your MPC? any videos or dvds or anything you'd recommend?

I ask because when i started using Logic, i know i did not go to the manual first ( i didn't even know what half of the terms even meant)

I went from mpc 2kxl in early 2000's to logic in 2005 and back to mpc5k last year. i got to say that the manual is the best place. i'd be at work thinking i wonder can i do 'this" on the 5k... download the manual look it up until i find what i want. read it over (and over sometimes) cant wait to get home and try it. get home and try it and and a few other things. before long everything is everything. dont underestimate the manual and just plain old diggin into the 5k... try some things f'up try something else.

Funny, I just purchased MPC5000 and Logic Studio 9 and I'm trying to learn both at the same time! Guess I'm just tryin to find my workflow! Sorry I did not help at all with my post but just thought I'd mention! Dig into the 5000 manual and just start pressing buttons, you'll find your way!

You have to just start trying to make a beat. Soon as you dont know how to do something. Read the section in the manual and then do as instructed. If you just sit and read it, you will be lost.. i make a living doing this and my advice is this.. expect to mess up. Expect to wasye time doing something the wrong way. Expect to get mad and want to quit. You have to fail before you learn how to not make the same mistakes. Your gonna f ish up at some point. Just laugh and learn from it. Took two years as a intern before i could man sessions in a studio. I had to make alot of mistakes before they new i worked the bugs out. With that being said. Turn it on, and make a beat.

I recently challenged a homie to learn by making two beats per week (for those with full time work schedules)... it forces u to get started and work towards something. things will come up and you'll be forced to handle it the best way you know how.... youwill have to dig into the manual too at somepoint like my man said. read it and do it but no matter what make beats. maybe they wont be so great at first but keep "making beats" u learn as you grow

Here is a step by step guide:

1. Smash your computer to bits
2. Get anxious to make music
3. Smoke weed
4. Steal your parents turntable and records
5. READ THE MANUAL!

Still it took me a year to really get into it, nahmean
