MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Hey, just signed up to this forum.. Hoping someone can help me here seeing the Akai dealership in South Africa knows nothing and I cant get a reply from Akai head office USA.

I've had my MPC for 9 days and decided to hook up the USB transfer to my mac. After mounting it, my MPC says connected but nothing shows up on my mac. I went to disk utility and ran a verify disk on my 80GB MPC drive and this said that the disk needed to be repaired. So I tried this but it reckons the disk cannot be repaired and I need to re-format it.

So I backed up and tried this.......... Nothing works?? Would be super stoked if someone else has been through this and knows how to solve this problem cos I really dont feel like sending this machine back to the states for 3weeks

Thanks
Mike

This problem occurs when you improperly disconnect an MPC 5000 from your Mac. The same thing occurs when I improperly disconnect my Fantom G from my Mac.

Usually, I have to "play around" with the Mac and the MPC and/or Fantom to get the Mac to see the hard drive on its desk top again. This "playing around" includes disconnecting all cables from the Mac and MPC/Fantom. Completely "shutting down" the Mac, MPC/Fantom. And then restarting them. Check to see if the MPC 5000 sees its hardware and/or CF card drive. I shut the Mac/MPC/Fantom down again, and connect them via USB cables, and restart them again. This normally gets them to work again.

To ensure the keep working properly, never disconnect directly from the MPC or Fantom. Always use your Mac to disconnect from these devices.
