Hey Guys,
I have been using Cakewalk as a sequencer with a midi interface (Unitor8) for several years now. I have now added an MPC-5000 to the kit list but it seems I am having a lot of issues integrating it to the Unitor8 & Cakewalk. My aim is to use the MPC-5000 as a multitimbral sound module when in studio environment (using Cakewalk as the sequencer) and than use the MPC-5000 alone when not in studio environment. This is the configuration I have done :-
On the MPC - I have created a new sequence on the MPC and assigned the various tracks to their respective Midi channels 1B for Track 1, 2B for Track 2 etc. In the Midi/Sync I have configured the MIDI outs as MULTI.
On the Unitor8 - I have connected the MPC Midi in to the Unitor Midi out No.2 and the MPC Midi out to the Unitor Midi In No.2
On Cakewalk - I assign tracks to call Port No.2 (which should be the MPC) there are 16 available midi channels for Port 2 as for any other port since Unitor8 has 8insx8outs.
What Happens -
Problem 1. - If I hit record on Cakewalk and play back the sequence from the MPC all the tracks playing back from the MPC get recorded on Midi Channel 1 in Cakewalk (I assume that if I have 5 Tracks playing back from the MPC I should see 5 seperate midi channels and tracks getting recorded on Cakewalk but instead I am getting 5 tracks layered on the same track on channel 1).
Problem 2. - I can't seem to be able to do any program changes even though the setting from the MPC is set to Program, I can change the Sequence and the tracks from Cakewalk to the MPC but when I configure the MPC to get the program changes from Cakewalk nothing happens.
Problem 3. - When I lay down notes in Cakewalk that should be triggered by the MPC nothing actually happens, even if I lay down notes on all the 16 midi channels on Port 2 (which is the Midi port assigned to the MPC on the Unitor8) it seems that I am not able to hear any notes being triggered on the MPC via Cakewalk.
I can't say I am a MIDI guru but I do have quite a lot of insight on how MIDI works, the only thing I am still pretty new at is the MPC5000. Please help!
