using Akai MPK 61 w/ MPC 5000

I feel like a newb for posting this question but I am unable to get the mpc 5000's synth sounds, or any loaded samples for that matter, to play using the mpk's keys connected via midi. I have a midi out from the mpk going to the midi in on the mpc, I have the program changed to midi and midi channel at 1A. What am I doing wrong?

so A1 is, MPC out A on midi channel 1

Look on your controller and make sure it's set to 1a if you have the midi enabled to 1a on the MPC

setting the controller to A1... yep check its sending on channel 1
But you will need to hook the MPC out port A to the controller to send the MPC's synth to it!
