cpu slowdown ..need comparison

hello lucky ones with working units,

i need to decide in the next 3 days if i return, keep or exchange my mpc.
i am not sure if its a hardware or sw problem. but i find it very strange that a huge unit like this gives up at 180 bpm with no samples/sequences running!
that means: an empty unit, just after turning on, just play + bpm set to 180:
the trk mixe window gets stuck: selecting tracks via pads or wheel is nearly impossible. at 160 bpm its nearly ok..

a second issue: with or without sequences running (empty unit possible): in prg mix window the first 4 tracks get fx sends 1-4 + sends full. after activating the solo function on track 4 in the track mute screen, going back to prg mix: the sends/fx are mixed up, different values..
am i mising something??

please tell me if your working ones do the same!!

are you making beats when you run into these problems, or are you looking for bugs? because im having no problems making beats.

You should return it and by a 2500 with JJOS or a Maschine....

ofcourse its a question of purpose. if you rappers/hiphoppers work between 80 + 120 bpm..no problem with freezing screens, but HOW do you use grid mode without stopping the sequence??

but hey, this machine could + can do so much more!
i do ambient, experimental sound stuff + nobody told me that i am excluded from akais community.

to leave you with edit screens where you have to stop the unit for editing + the need to reset the screen after hitting play again..
it seems to be just some kind of oversight, dont know if out of ignorance or sloppiness? but the workflow of this mpc, beeing able to load/save/record...without stopping shows that its capable to do these (common) things.
WE have to remind them!

in case of the 2500: how does it compare in filter, fx?
thats a reason for the 5000: i think the eqs + fx are better then on the older mpcs...?

could you just do this very easy quick test??

Why would you buy a mpc 5000 for this: empty unit + play + bpm to 180 + above, select trkmix + choose tracks by pads...constantly...? Sell it, and use your computer with software.

its an EXAMPLE to verify (understand) this strange behavior.
of course it works WITH samples inside. just easyer to try out empty.
+ of course i want to use a sampler at higher bpm...why does it go to 300??
+ instead giving me good advices, you could just try + tell me..

Do you have the ram upgrade? I don't. I tried your example and it does slow down so... Sell it, and use your computer with software.

i dont have the ram..
i played arround with that machine the whole night, couldnt go to sleep, its simply FASCINATING!!
i slowly understand this kind of love relationship these guys here arround have. it has its spirit...simple os, very clear + direct, +: THE PADS!! THATS what its about i guess. the interaction with the machine...man machine...

ok: so i learn slowly to love it, but nevertheless: some issues should be resolved. as mentioned: to have to stop in grid + step editing mode to enter/delete notes isnt helpfull.

other question: how do the filter compare to mpc 1000s?

+ i have pcs + sw.blabla... but machines are leading us to different territoties!!

The MPC 2500 filters (same as 1000 I believe) are not as flexible or good sounding as the MPC5000. You get serious filter cutoff with up to 8 pole and a wider range of filter types on the 5000. Even on similar settings to the 2500, I think the 5000 sounds better. The 2500/1000 are a few features short if you have used a 5000, but they are closer to the perfect tight hardware box concept. The 5000 seems to want to be everything to everyone.

I think most peeps wish that something about their MPC model was better, but its the whole package that counts.

thats my opinion too. its the same with every kit: the more specialized + reduced the better the workflow + handling. the all in one idea chases us till eternaty.
i am not quicker on a 5000 + less flexible than with a vew dedicated small machines.
BUT: for rap/hiphop (old school) sampling style it seems perfect..

You seldom hear people about DAW ****. When in mixing stage I had to deal with all kinds of shit from the sequencer, the plugs, vst and the computer itself. Now it's all good my setup thank god, but my MPC is still less frustrating.


Unless you produce D&B don't go beyond 200 bpm.
When audition samples, don,t tap the play or TAP button. There is no reason to!!!!
