If you look in the list of tweets and find this guy http://twitter.com/remygolden1

He has asked this question :-

Dear @Akai_Pro When are you updating the OS for the mpc5000? http://t.co/Roo1QIh

The reply is :-

@Akai_Pro
Akai Professional
@remygolden1 This is something our engineers are working on at the moment.

So there you have it...... are the people finally being heard?

Lets hope this is true and if so its great news....

True indeed. But i must admit that this is the first response that wasn't as vague as government classification of alien encounters. If this is true and they actually said the engineers are working on an update there may be something to it. But proof is in the pudding. hmmm akai pudding?!

So where do we send our suggestions, then? I mean, real midi control over the synh and importing wavs iinto the synth would be cool, but mostly I just want it to play Mario 3....

Keeping the MPC alive is a good thing. The MPC 5000 is so close to being perfect. But its 2011 and hardware and software has advanced so much since 2008. My suggestions (you know this was coming):

MPC X

Hardware:

1. Improve quality of display
2. 360 degree Q-link knobs w/ at least 3 Q-link banks; INT/EXT select button
3. 8 drum pad banks
4. MPC 2000 style-jog wheel
5. Additional function buttons; user assignable
6. 2 GB sample RAM; 2 GB flash RAM

OS:
1. 256 voices
2. Combine the MPC 4000, 5000 OS2 and JJ OSXL and be done with it

If/when there is a new MPC on the horizon...I have a $3000 budget..and best believe I will pick it up as soon as it hits the streets....

^ Do you need 4 gigs of RAM?
If your making a 4:00 song, how many seconds of sampling time are you really going to use? To me the reason why so many people love the MPC ( especially the older models ) is the fact you don't get caught up in so many options ( fx,sample library, vst's...) It's the simplicity that drew me into buying one.
People get so caught up in a pissing match over which gear can do this and that.... ( just look at the comparison forum.)

on your typical mpc style sampler and chopping system you may not... but lets say you want to bring in entire pieces of classical music and have it so each pad can have it's own start and end points on different areas of the wave file... it could get taken up quick.

then consider the potential to using 32bit wav..

also, how about being able to load up several songs at once with multiple seperate song modes... how would that be for live use?

8 banks of samples would also eat that ram right up.

Also, non volatile ram might be cool... you would just also have a clear memory button somewhere to start from scratch.

agree about polyphony (128 too should do the job :D) but i'd say improved compatibility with ALL older models (including mpc 4000's keygroups) and more hands on control
