I finally got tired of having a sh!tload of program's loaded up I never use. I load it empty and only load what I know I'm going to use for a track..... I know I'm not the only one right?

Same here: the first thing I disabled was auto-load.

In the same vein I have a silly question: what do you guys do to clear the whole memory so you can start anew on a fresh track? I haven't found a function or button for this, so I always just power down and reboot. Am I missing something obvious here?

thx,
DL

I power it down too LOL. It seems like the fastest way to clear everything to start fresh.

I do that to. The harddrive is not used when everything is in memory so it can't do damage to the drive right? But because I'm brainwashed with never shutting down the PC like that it does creeps me a little bit :)

Lately I've been using the purge method though....

I made my own autoload template so when it powers up all the midi tracks are set right & reference the gear that I'm using., like synths fx & drums. All the tracks are empty, but I don't have to spend a while setting up a new project as the initial bit is always there. Also, empty programs just how i like em are autoloaded.

You just create a folder called AUTOLOAD on the disk or CF and put your template in there, the MP then finds it on power up.

Didn't realize this was a MPC5000 thread. I've just went and blathered on about my 2500 JJ autoload. Although, it was early in the morning when I waded into it.

I still feel like a total knob though.

Mind you that's not an unusual occurrence.

Sorry guys, hopefully JJ will invent you a lovely 5000 OS someday soon.

see, done it again. Another foot in mouth.

What I do : I do a 'save entire memory' to an autoload folder when I shut my MPC off, next time I start it up, it automatically loads everything exactly where I left it.

You can also make a template so that it allready loads a basic stock of samples and Q-link assignments that loads up when the unit is powered on.

Used with sense, the autoload is quite handy ....

hm, why wouldn't track names not be saved when doing a 'save entire memory' ? maybe you should give it a try ...

I was talking about the default template option when autoloading. Now that I think of it you can create a empty program and autoload that duh!
