MPC 5000 question

Hi guys! I want to get a MPC 5000, but there is a feature which can make the difference between buying and not buying so please give me a hand!

It says that it records on 8 audio tracks direct to the hard disk so there must be no worry that it's too small. The question is when I want to use in a project that long recorded audio, does it go into the 192mB RAM or it plays directly from the Hard Disk?

Like on the MV8800 it goes into the RAM which even though it's 512mB still too small for what I need...so I don't want to spend all that money just to find out that it's the same like the MV8800 which I owned.

i think you can register 8 wav track on the HD, and that you can also edit and hear those from the hard disk... but if you want to use the tracks you recorded in the actual song you are playing you must load them in the internal memory, 192 mega

i may be wrong though...

anybody else?

Well, that's exactly it, I mean they said the MPC 5000 is different especially in the fact that records and plays from the HD...still I cannot risk all that money without knowing this for sure... that's why I need the help of actual users of the MPC 5000, I mean for me that it's a key feature, cause I plan to work almost everything with it together with my few synths.

If I read the manual at page 67 it seems that it's possible... but if a read page 172, it says:
''The MPC5000 cannot load an audio track that is greater in size than is available in the internal memory.''...they are referring when loading from a CD... still very CONFUSING...

i'm an actual user, but since 2 or 3 weeks... i didn't try it yet :oops:

nice one carlo, glad to hear you finally got the mpc in the end

as for op...the mpc5000 has a memory of 128mb (i think) so you wont be able to load any audio files larger than that...or whatever memory you may have installed...can be loaded from either a cd or via usb....

see 3 min 15 onwards...

you may need to have os 2.0 installed for it to work, but dont quote me on that

Up to 192MB of memory on the 5000

Sooo... what u sain'? It works like I want or not? Still don't understand... :(

Read pg 61 and on, check out what it says. Also check for addendums on any updates since this manuals was published to see what the updates entail.

I actually read the manual...that's the problem ...like I said, at page 67 it says something like it works...still not sure...

Come one...isn't anyone out here with an MPC 5000 to be able to try this stuff??

Ok op......

You can record up to 8 tracks to the hard drive...... They can be as long as you would need considering it's beng stored on the HD.

Example:
Track 1: A guitar backing track to your beat you record to the HD
Track 2: a backround vocal track...
.
.
.
Track 8: last verse of song..... Recorded directly to hd.

Now you can take you beat/sequences you made and add these 8 hd tracks to it.
You can't record directly to the hd for sampling.So to answer your question. The ram will not be used for anything you record directly to the HD.

Thing is that what I want to be sure of is if I can pick and mix any audio track(up to 8 of them) with the current project I work on.
I plan to sequence my external synths with the MPC and record them in the MPC Hd; then mix the audio with the beats made in the MPC and eventually re-record everything for the final piece.
So I need to be sure that I can do the whole production thing inside the MPC.. I plan to buy it to get away totally from the computer, otherwise I may just stay with the computer...
