I'm coming from a DAW environment where when sequencing in Cubase (or Logic too), after you've recorded let's say a 4 bar loop, you can overwrite at certain points in the loop because even after you press record, you don't actually record until a midi event is played. So in that scenario, if I wanted to overwrite the last two bars, I would just presss REC/PLAY and let the original sequence play and then the sequencer would not begin recording until I played and midi note. Is that kind of recording possbile on the 5000? I've looked through the manual and the only options see are for overdubbinng or recording. I don't want to overdub, I want to just overwrite at a certain point, but still keep at the midi note up to that point. When pressing REC and PLAY/START, it overwrites the entire sequence. and again, I just want to overwrite at the last bar.

Is this possible?.

Try Overdub + Play

My man! To think I had the ASQ10, MPC2000, MCP3000, MPC4000 and after spending a few years with software and coming back to the 5000 I forgot that. I'm NEVER leaving the MPC world again.
