Hi everyone,

first of all LOTS of Thanks to Andy Avgousti, the author of the above mentioned e-book, it´s a fantastic piece of work!!! I would be completely lost and helpless without this book.

I have a very specific and detailed question concerning chapter 023 "Chopping Drum Loops Part 1" hoping that someone can help me out :-D

The e-books 1-bar example "Simple.Wav" (see page 220) was also chopped into 4 parts by me and then converted into the Sliced Samples programme. It was done exactly the same way as explained in the book on page 224 (Convert to: Sliced Samples, Release:100, Create new program: Yes).

But when I compare the e-book´s result with my result, my four slices don´t end so smoothly and with a nice decay although the release was set to 100.

Is there something that I missed?

I would be very grateful for some advice.

Cheers
Chris

Hi Chris - glad you're finding the book helpful.

I'll have to check that, it may be that I created those chops in OS 1.07 (the book was originally written for OS v1 and I updated it where relevant). It could be that the release function is buggy in OS 2 - or simply a mistake at my end 8) .

I'll have a look tomorrow when I'm in the office.

OK...Thanks a lot for your research.

That sounds like in real life, I suppose:

The newest and most expensive version/machine doesn´t necessarily always be the best in daily use :hmmm:

Keep on with your nice work for all of us beat junkies!

Cheers

Wow!!!

One would think that they should test all the functions before releasing some new stuff. That´s really annoying

At least I can feel a little bit releived because I thought I was just too stupid to understand the whole process of chopping single drum hits. But your answer taught me that such a well respected company can also make mistakes. Although it´s still very strange that you could even start a "bug list".

What´s your advice?

The last weeks I was dedicating myself to get my own drum kit together (digging for vinyl, studying chopping/layering/...). But that Release option would be a very helpful (or even indispensable???) tool.

Is there another way of substituting the lack of this by tricking/cheating with other parameters or is it possible to install the older version on my MPC and if it were...wouldn´t that sound crazy?

Thanks again for your help and your time :-D
