LOL, yep, unbelievably I can confirm it does indeed work perfectly.

Basically pad 6 was only periodically working. So I scored a line at the top of the black sensor, approx 1mm from the top, but stopped short of the edge at either side so I wouldn't go near the actual circuitry.

Did the same for the bottom. Switched on and it made no difference, so I tried again, this time with more pressure. Switched on and it works perfectly.

Here's a picture - as you can see, I didn't even use a ruler, I just did it freehand and very wonky at that :)

This will come in handy as a quick fix, especially as your finger drumming kit is pushing a few of my pads over the edge!

I think the Nukai era MPCs are over-engineered when it comes to the amount of screws holding them together. Even a big beast like the 4K can be opened up in 5 minutes.

Someone on here claimed that the pressure on the sensors becomes equalised by trimming the top and bottom. It'd be nice to know the exact science though.

I'll bare it in mind about other sensors having a different design, and only attempt it if a pad dies completely.

executed this on my MPC 5000 after 12 of the pads stopped working, and I can confirm this works ! all pads are working flawlessly again. A lot of unscrewing though ...

I'm struggling to remove the grey panel at the bottom, the one with the the 3 rectangles across it. I appear to have removed all the screws but the panel is still firmly secure and wont budge.

Is there a clip that I cannot see or technique to removing this part?

Please help!!

Interesting. I'm guessing it works because its like peeling dead skin off your hands or feet, so out with the old and in with the fresh. The thing is these sensors don't regenerate new skin, so you're down on your last man if you're not replacing the old film. Can it be seran wrapped?
