MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Looks the the era of large scale hardware is history. I picked this up on the MV forum but it seem that the 5000 has been indeed dropped and is being closed out.

The AKAI MPC5000 has been discontinued. The last of the new units are set to hit the stores in September if it at all.

Not suprised to see people that have never owned or used an MPC 5000 more concerned with it being discontinued than those that actually own it. Akai is still in the MPC business....

No it's not, it's in the App/Midi controller/Sound Card/ Ipad Peripheral business.

It goes to show... I don't trust this company one bit any more and neither should you. I don't own the 5k so I'm not shocked about this, but I've been paying attention to the messages their pr people have been throwing at us. Nothing has changed and this proves that nothing ever will.

Edit: whoa the more I think about this the more it troubles me that they've just pissed on their (dedicated/loyal) customers and probably made a dent on their brand. Daymn.

No, not really.

Except under the Akai nameplate, then yes -- but that bell tolled long ago with the bankrupcy of what was left ot the original company.

Nukai never made real hardware. Just buggy cartoon hardware simulator video games in a box to make people think they were getting real hardware long enough to "sink the hook".

not surprised to see you stick up for something akai did which you know is wrong. even you abandoned the mpc5000 over time, jah... don't even act like it's something worth sticking up for. they released a buggy, sh!tty, overpriced machine which did NOT deliver. and just because they pay you to promote the ren doesn't make them "still in the mpc business".

i was hoping for an os update for my fvcked 5000. this nukai rep was lying to us, right? i am referring to this andy mac boy.

I remember calling him out on this. I've been a product manager for about 10 years and I instantly recognize the bullshit that comes out of people's mouths regarding future product development. When he claimed it was his pet project it was clear he was spouting nonsense. There are very good financial, legal and ethical reasons not to imply, promise or hint that features are coming for a product that is currently being sold. I don't think he meant harm. I just think he was naive and trying to win people over without really thinking things through.

Roger Linn needs to buy the brand name when this Ren shit FAILS badly, as we all know it will after a year or so.
Then we can get back to having some serious hardware for the HEADS.

(Also, what happened to the BEAT WANGZ are they eating out of dumpsters and pimping out their wives/boyfriends to make a living yet?)

that's what I was thinking...

When something is wrong.... it's wrong. I have had the same conversation in the past with him in a thread.... he refuses to believe anything numark/akai does is wrong... the closest he will come is quoting the release price to compare with the 3000's release price (back when ram cost a dollar a kilobyte)... saying any flaw is acceptable because the price is lower... etc. Dude is smart though... he off loaded his precious 5000 before anyone found out it's a fire hazard

On a serious note... it is a shame. You would think that akai could easily repair the OS... make another manufacturing run with the hardware built properly... try and reverse the damage a little bit.... make it look like they are taking a new direction. Because even today, it's a gamble buying a 5000 besides the OS issues... you dont know if you are getting a lemon unit or not... even from guitar center type places.

Read about all the heartache that Jig went through in various threads.
