Hi I have akai mpc 5000, I have a question.

I'm thinking about buying a midi keyboard like the M-Audio Keystation 88ES

Can I connect the keyboard to my mpc and use the computer as a sound module with plug-ins? How to connect? Will I need any additional hardware?

Get to know your MPC first by connecting keystation to it with a midi cable and triggering the on-board synth. Lots and lots of sounds you can get out of that thing.

Meanwhile do some research on how to get sound and midi in and out of your computer so you'll eventually be ready for that next step.

I know how to connect the keyboard to the built-in synthesizer. I use it for a long period, its time to change the database

If anyone knows how to use the computer as a sound base please help. Of course, I will try to find a solution ..

also kvraudio for software plugin searches...
The best option would be a sound card interface with midi i/o aswell .. so yes you need additional hardware.. better yet, get a midi controller/soundcard interface all in one... like this

i have a novation xstation .. i have used it to do exactly what you want to do in the past. imo the synth on novation stuff is fukn phat... i haven't used the ultra nova, but I'm guessing its just an updated xstation with vocoder function..

If the op is looking to use their comp as a sound source, they'd better make sure it's up to speed for that kind of stuff as well as a decent soundcard that's capable of very low latency performance.

Also, a must have would be that the sc has midi I/O so they can cover some basic routing chores. A multi-port midi interface would be a welcomed addition too.

1. What DAW and computer platform (Mac/ PC) are you using?

2. What soundcard/ audio interface are you using? Specs?

3. Are you using a hardware mixer for monitoring?

I just bought a 5k myself couple weeks ago so I kinda have the same question. I'm totally new to the software game so excuse me. And no I'm not a rookie lol...just been using the mp since I started. But what I wanna know is can I connect a midi keyboard (say 25 or 49 keys) to my 5k and assign a guitar sound to the keyboard and stretch it out to where I can play melodies (instead of using the 16 levels on the mp)? OR...Can a use (say protools or audacity) and use vsti's to play melodies and it will work with my 5k? Or do I have to do it separate? I'm using the Lexicon Lambda as my audio interface. Thanks.
