MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

Yup, I am new to the MPC world. Got real tired of always looking up at my screens. So far I like producing on it... Although not as fast for me yet with many things... I feel like I end up using my ears way more to make musical decisions, and end up with more interesting music.

Anyway...
Seriously is there not even a way to trim a sample to a specific bar length? Am I missing something? I guess if they left out feature of being able to set record length to bar length.. that would be fine, can't have everything.. But then not be able to do a quick trim down by bar length?

Of course maybe I just am not using all of the options here, someone could chime in..

Also, just curious... Is there no way to copy a sequence and include all tracks/programs etc... Only way I have found is go track by track???

Thanks!

Hi,

No there is not really a function for this on the 5000 but you can do the following...

Let's assume that the tempo of your song is 120 BPM (I take this tempo to keep it simple).

So that means that there are 120 quarter notes in 60 seconds of time.

That means that every quarter note takes 0,5 seconds (60 seconds divided by 120)

There a 4 quarter notes in 1 measure, that means that 1 measure takes 2 seconds (4 quarter notes x 0,5 seconds).

The sampling frequency of the 5000 is 44.100 kHz per second...that means that one bar, which as we have seen takes 2 seconds, has a total sampling frequency of 88.200 kHz.

Now if you want to trim a sample for a perfect bar at a tempo of 120 BPM you can use these numbers. If your start point of the sample is exactly at 0 than your end-point must be exactly at 88.200. Suppose that your start-point is at 400 than your end-point would be 88.600.

You can adjust the start-point to any position you like...as long as the difference between the start- and end-point is 88.200 you will have a perfect one bar sample at a tempo of 120 BPM.

Of course you can apply this calculation to every tempo.

I kept it simple, not to treat you as a child, but just wanted to explain it clearly.

Hope this helps!

Regards,

Pieter

Thanks for the info..

I guess I will likely end up sequencing my hardware synths from MPC and recording into daw. Can easily bounce a loop and import back to MPC if I need.

I realize the 5000 was release some years ago, it would be nice though if it had some very feasible features that we are used to in the age of DAW. Still like it for the price they go for now....

Use the hd recorder...
then export the region.. As the region hd mode time selection can be bar specific
You then have to import the sample again into yr pgm and trigger it.

To copy a sequence
In main mode move the highlight cursor of the sequence/name number, and hit window button. you can copy the sequnce to a new sequence slot along with all pgm/track info and sequence info...
