when i see 8 track hd recorder, i image recording my 8-outs directly to the harddisk.
that's not working right - why not? i don't wanna buy a mixer, i wanna record my 8 tracks on the mpc, transfer them to my DAW and mix them there. who the **** would mix it in the mpc with that tiny stupid waveform editor? c'mon
damn, frustrates me. if it wasn't for the synth, i would switch to 2500 immediately.

Personally I find the synth to be just as awkwardly, if not more awkwardly implemented as the recorder.

The HD recording of the 5k more useful for those that have no DAW. You may prefer to dump the music from 5k to your DAW, record and mix all the audio tracks there in your DAW.

I cannot tell anyone what workflwo they should use, I just toss out options. You have to choose what works best for you.

On the other hand, if your issue is how to get the audio into the PC cause of lack of a mix or audio interface, one 'fairly' inexpensive option is to get a USB mixer.

yeah true about the usb mixer and the not having the DAW (DAW - even my 10 year old ibm notebooks is better for final processing than the mpc), but quality wise it's crap.

i just don't understand that i have an 8 track hd recorder but cannot record my sample tracks onto my hd. i can - 2 by 2 - resample the 8 outs and drop them as a mixdown.

regarding the synth - what i like about it is having a really good sampler and a fair synth all in one hardware piece. when i bought the 5000, i thought i'd also have the recorder in there, but no

is there a piece of hardware that would satisfy all of those 3 things?

It's why I sold my 5K just this week after getting the studio.... It's NOT for everyone but works for my workflow since I have started doing more in the PC over the last couple of years. For my pads and samples and my pc for hard disk recording (Even if u have no DAW outside of the MPC software DAW, there is always Audacity, which works in a pinch for multitrax chopping, and other basic audio editing... Just saying) Tho I'd suggest grabbing one of the many inexpensive commercial DAWS and using ur 5k that ur alrdy comfortable with

yes 5k is a crappy shit but use it for what it built for. it's generally a liveact machine with superior sampling engine. the synth is far from professional, but on the stage - who cares? your audience will hear it on 1000+ watts, on this power they can't be able to distinguish the difference for any other synth. (however, i could create some really nice tone, but still didn't worked like a ++ grade synthesizer, and the effect unit is a bottleneck in this conception)
by the way - in the studio, for quality records i use my radias and romplers. 5k is simply not for this.
i thinking on buying a MPC4000 with full of 512MB memory, 'coz it sounds better to sample my synth tones and than use a really affordable liveact sampler.
