MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

I recently bought an mpc 5000 off ebay, the moment I switched it on it loaded up and as soon as it went to the MAIN screen it fired off a tom without me touching any of the pads, basically none of the pads work, and if I hit them a couple times then it might fire off one sample. What I want to know is, is this a pad sensor issue? An os issue? (V1.01) or a settings issue ( bare in mind that I can't access any of the modes or settings because the pads don't respond) p.s when I hit note repeat, I can hear one of the samples firing away even though nothing is being pressed. Has anyone ever had this issue with this machine?

Was this machine bought with known faults?

Find out how to reset the machine, and do that before going any further.

After that check all internal cables and connectors are firmly seated, and there are no loose components inside.

Next, consider the pad sensors to be the most likely suspect.

Then, look at an OS upgrade if problems persist.

Sounds like a pad sensor issue to me. I'd check that first. And if the seller didn't indicate anything was wrong, then could certainly have happened during shipping. We've shipped our second unit from time to time, and twice we had a connector come loose... even after secure packaging and marking "fragile".

Reset the machine first.

Might just save you the hassle of opening the unit for no reason.
