Main Volume knob (connected to motherboard)

Hey all,

Just recently purchased an mpc 5000 from a seller on eBay. Everything is in working condition except for the Main Volume knob. It is loose and wiggles around and the only way to get sound to come out of the phones/speakers is to push it in and sort of adjust it to where it's supposed to sit naturally. I'm wondering if anyone has ever had this problem, and if anyone has a solution to it. Not sure if I should buy a new part (or where to find it) or if I should attempt to open it up and try to tighten it. I'd appreciate some helpful input. Many thanks...

I believe the correct word for it is 'potentiometer', my bad.

I would open it up to see if it has just become loose.

You need to open it to replace it anyway.

I would be looking at MPCStuff and VST Service for a drop in replacement.

I opened up the top enough to take off the cover around the potentiometer and it didn't look like there was any way to tighten it. From the top at least. Pretty frustrated.

Try to unmount (desoldering it), unmount the case and then clean and fix the parts inside. Mount it again and solder it.
Well, you should test it with a tester before soldering, Be the most careful you can, use a towel or a piece of white cotton cloth to avoid losing any piece.
Take pictures if needed to avoid remount errors.
