On the MPC60II you can have a 2nd sequence playing with the current sequence.
Not sure if you can switch sequences on the 60 while the 2nd sequence is playing though.
On the MPC4000 you have the same feature called simul seq. Meaning simultaneous sequence. Which can play along with the currently playing sequence.

Can you switch the sequence on the 4000 while the simul seq is playing? That would allow switching of drum patterns while a linear sequence with all tuned non drum instruments played along side it but with switchable drum patterns.

I was planning on using this as a way of having a linear song playing with switchable patterns.
For example: I would play/program a bunch of drum patterns like Intro Roll, Main A, Main B, Fill A, Fill B, Bridge, Outro pattern etc. And then be able to switch these looping patterns live while a linear sequence playing all my chromatically tuned non drum/percussion instruments is the 2nd seq or simul seq.
Then I could experiment with different drum arrangements against the piano, bass etc tracks on the linear sequence.

This isn't a deal breaker though, because I actually plan on sequencing linearly on my Motif XF7 and having the MPC5000 synced playing the drum patterns.

BTW, I love that the MPC5000 can switch to the next pattern on the next measure instead of at the end of the currently playing pattern by using the 'next sequence at next bar' function. This would allow me to have longer Main patterns with little drum variations contained in it instead of limiting myself to a 2 bar pattern because a 2 bar pattern would be necessary if I wanted to intuitively switch to a fill when the mood struck instead of having to wait till a 8-16 bar sequence of main groove with little variations finishes. I could Bring in the fill on the next measure using the 'next sequence to next bar' button.

And I love the fact the MPC5000 sequences can be switched with program numbers. I could arrange regions in my DAW arrange that contain program change numbers and visually arrange the MPC sequences in the DAW.

I may even be able to assign program change numbers to a MIDI controller like my Motif and then record the playing of those numbers as a way to record live switching of sequences. Because my understanding is that the MPC5000 doesn't allow recording of 'pad to next sequence' switching.

I want to have drum patterns ready to jam with live musicians and switch patterns live as part of the jams interaction and arrangement.

Looking at the MV8800 manual it doesn't have the 'next sequence to next bar' function or the program change number to next sequence function either.
But the MV has non destructive quantising which is Dope and quantise strength which the 5000 shares and is a Big reason I just bought one (haven't received it yet).

I can use the undo function of the 5000 to audition a quantise strength and undo it if I wish to change it. But once the clipboard is cleared the one step of undo is gone and the quantisation is committed or destructive as we would say.

A second sequence function would be useful but reading the 5000 manual it seems that it doesn't have one.

Does the 2000 or 1000 etc have the 2nd seq/simul seq function?

First, if you want meaningful replies, I would greatly shorten the length of your posts. Or put the question all at the end. Doubtful that many are going to read all of either of your posts.

Regarding second sequence simultaneously, my understanding is that this was done on earlier models because of other limitations. I finished a complete album on mostly a 5000, and I can't see any reason why you would actually want two sequences playing simultaneously. But I've never use a 60, so the context is foreign to me.

My advice, look at the Ren. I'm not a huge fan of it, used it a bit. But these days it's tough to find a 5000 in good working order. The ones that are, someone is holding on to. Unless you go with one of the custom ones on eBay.

Hope this helps. You probably asked a lot more, but I'm not reading all of that. Lol.

Edit: saw you said you just bought a 5000. Awesome MPC.
