Hey! Download the ref manual and go to page 187!
There is a screen shot about connecting to a computer and in the bootom left of the screen it says:

"To exit this mode, dismount the MPC3500 drives from your computer,"

WTF! So was the name MPC5000 a last min idea or are they gonna release a MPC3500?

Strange Shiz!

Peace!

The initial operating systems of the 1000/2500 performed the say way. It was changed in an OS update.

Looking at the MPC 5000 closer, the top front of the unit reminds me of the 3000 a little in pictures.

yea, akai slipped up big time. It looks like they hire temporary help to do most of their work now and just keep the marketing people on payroll.

with temporary help you only write what you need and i am sure akai forgot to rehire that same programmer to change the name of the device.

Wow, that's solid evidence. That's f#@king BAD.

I bet all the Akai engineers knew it was the 3500, but were forced by executives (for sales/marketing reasons) to change the name to 5000 at the last minute, because the executives didn't want consumers thinking that it was inferior to the 4000...

But I think they would need a whole new processor to handle what the 4000 does already.
I wonder what we'd find if we cracked them both (4000 & 5000) open and compared processors?

so, if the 1000 is the little brother to the 2500, does that mean there's something else coming?

wtf is this? the akai version of cloverfield? (the monster is lame, btw)

Owning and loving my 3000, I'm glad this stupid thing's name is not 3500.

It should really be called 2500XL, because that's what it is. Or just PC2500XL (Plastic Computer 2500XL)

BTW: Its crazy that some of the things that was standard already on the 3000 still is called "new features".
