They are discontinued however, some places may still have them in stock. If you find one new, it should cost you about $2500 as well.

All audio interfaces process audio at a higher bit depth than their AD/DA output stages, this is to have enough headroom for processing.

Same letter (wav) in a bigger envelope . It won't sound any different. All DAWs and 24bit plugs will make this repackage invisibly once it's in the app.

This simply makes initial compatibility easier if your app is specific about using 24bit files.
