MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai

First time using an MPC. My 5k has 8 assignable outs, and my Projectmix (M-Audio) has 8 Ins. How would i set my MPC's outs to record into Cubase? I've read the manual and it doesn't really specify how to assign the outs, just that they're available (which is obvious).

The manual also suggests that it's good to plug your MPC stereo outs into the monitors for the "Best output mix" of the MPC....but if i do that, i'll have nowhere to plug the audio outs of my ProjectMix (which is also the PC's audio interface) to hear the sounds coming from my PC (vst's, for example)....any light shed on the best setup would be helpful.

I actually saw that before in the manual as well, but I forgot what page(but if i can remember, they were saying use the 8 outputs instead of tracking everything thru stereo cause, some sounds will sound distort with others when being tracked out thru the same output at the same time, until being correctly mixed)

I dont think they mean plug the main stereo outs in while you are tracking(if so this is some new engineering technique)

Now if you had 10 inputs on your Project Mix or other audio card/preamp, you could use the stereo outs as well, to have a total of 10 outputs to send sounds to your audio card(but thats on some other sh..t)

silly me...breezed right past that part cause i didn't think it would be in there.

well that answers half the question...now if someone could kindly tell me how to configure Cubase's audio tracks to see the ProjectMix's separate Ins, that'd be great because the only input options on the dropdown of the Audio tracks are "Stereo In" and "No Bus"

From working with other maudio audio cards, you could probably go inon windows, to the control panel, and you will find the Project Mix Audio Card options in there... From there you could probably make them available. Thats if you are running it on Windows OS

guess no one's noticing i typed TWO paragraphs :?
By 4dahaterz Fri May 30, 2008 10:07 pm
Did you check your Contorl Panel in Windows XP... or what other paragraph are you referring to?
By BxJaze Fri May 30, 2008 11:18 pm
sorry bout the 2 paragraphs line, i was typing in another forum. didn't even realize i was here, one of them rare firefox issues ???

i called tech support and they say that since i have media center edition windows xp, then that's the problem because it's not supported.

but that's beyond me because the outputs DO play when i route them out of the MPC, Cubase is just not giving me the option to choose different tracks as input.

they are just saying that because they don't feel like helping or don't wanna fess up and actually don't have a clue

try finding and downloading asio 4 all, you may not have the correct/compatible asio and/or wdm drivers in your pc.

I had a feeling about that Lampdog, dude was talking all fast like I was gonna be confused. I think i'll just try them again today. He claims there's disclaimers about it both in the manual (which lo and behold, never came with the unit and i had to have printed), and on m-audio's website.

I've had ASIO4ALL for quite sometime now, and according to the settings, all the in's have been made available/active....cubase just see's only 1 & 2 as "active" and the rest as inactive.

and even so, like i said, "stereo in" and "No bus" are the only available options in the dropdown menu for the Audio In settings of the audio tracks.

i hate this!

There s no pb using your sound card with media center cause it s simply an xp with the media center addon so every drivers working on xp works on media center ..

You just need to add some extra busses in cubase to see your inputs with the " vst connections " menu

I also advise you to unistall Asio4All cause it can create conflicts with your existing ASIO

Hope this helps

Haven't uninstalled asio4all yet but you're definitely the **** MAN for the vst connections advice. i didn't even realize that one. worked like a charm. how do you think is the best way to export? Should i use audio tracks and export each pad centered, or use mono tracks and just leave the MPC outs panned as is? Just looking for some direction. Still new to the hardware scene.

I'm also wondering just how in-depth the ProjectMix can control Cubase. If i've still going to have to be using the mouse if it can't control things like compressors and 3rd party effects....should i just get a audio interface rack mount instead and mix via mouse?

I mostly use mono tracks while exporting to my DAW, exept for some sounds that needs to be sterero.

You can control every fonctions of Cubase with the project mix.
Just make sure you have the last firmware with the Mackie HUI emulation.
I can t help you more on this i don t have a Project Mix but i m sure it s very easy with the Mackie emulation mode.

Ok, no projectmix...but perhaps you can shed some light on THIS problem?
