MPC5000 reviews, bug reports and fellow user support on the most recent standalone, hardware MPC from Akai
By BxJaze Sun Jun 22, 2008 3:23 pm
So I live in Atlanta. Went home to New York for a weekend, and came back to my studio room empty, including (and especially) my brand new MPC5000 (the one you see pictured in the "Show a Pic of Your MPC5000" thread, loaded up with sounds I've been programming in it hours on end for 2 weeks straight.

Now replacing it wasn't a problem, it's my hard drives and 9 years of work being gone that hit me the hardest. No doubt in my mind it was an "inside job," so I'm taking the necessary steps as far as that goes.

I wonder if anyone out there can relate to such pain.

:x

PS - If you ever see a MPC5000 with the folder "KEWN" on the hard drive, look me up and I'm burning everything down.

Dang Brother... Sorry to hear about that... Thats some real f..cked up $hit

Never been thru it before, and I pray I never will have too.... I'd be devastated and mad as

Did you have insurance on the equipment at least and an alarm system... and of course, nonthing can replace the files and the actual music.

that is FUKKED UP for real.

I've been telling people up and down left and right DO NOT put your studio pics online even when someone makes a thread talking bout "BE PROUD, SHOW US YOUR BOOBIES,,errr,,, I mean,, STUDIO"

Man, I'm VERY skeptical of those thread and posts. I'm SO sorry to hear that. Forum Member Knoxximus went through that a few years back and it was FUKKED up then same as it is for you.

Damn amn... i saw the pics and that was alot of shit. I mean the equipment all together probably ran you about $5000-6000, but what was on the hard drives... priceless. No tellin what you could have been working on or what one of those beats could have gone for...

Yea, it seems like it was an inside job, or someone on the inside know something so I would start with the people that vist your studio most... it's not likely to be the people that you work with in the studio cause if they steal it and sell it they wouldnt have any equipment to work with, and they wouldnt keep cause u would see them with it.
And I would find out who all knew you were goin out of town... thats shit wasnt a coincidence that you just happen not to be home.

Good luck man... you said u didnt have a problem replacing so thats good... but I know u want some payback!

Thanks alot.

I live a few minutes from Decatur. I aint been out here long, bout 3 months. Bought all that stuff within a month's time. And thats just the pic you see. I also lost TV's (including a brand new 50"), a MPD32, an ASR-10, and more. That white monitor in the pics, is pretty much all they left.

That's just the thing, only one person knew that stuff was there, and in all, 2-3 people knew we'd be gone. So we're lookin into what could've happened.

As for all that stuff, that wasn't even my official "studio" dude, that was all in my BEDROOM, so im taking it extra personal.

All in all it's about a $20,000 loss, including everything not seen in pics.

I would say it figures, but you said it might be somebody you know and the short amount of time you been here. You gotta be extra carefull around them parts. Watch who you let come to your bank. They will violate and disrespect without a moments notice. Watch them chicks too. Gas is 4 bucks! You got 20+ sittin. ya digg.

I'm browsing craigslist right now and Tomorrow I will hit up Galaxy Music (they buy/sell used gear) and Guitar Center(they buy/sell used gear also), since I gotta grab some cables any way.

Peace and Good Luck!

Wow...there's a MPC 5000 now?

BxJaze, my spot got hit May 2006. I live in Vegas. I was out in LA for E3 at the time. Came home at 1am to find my garage door up.

It used to look like this:

That morning, however, it looked kinda like this.

About 30 g's combined worth....gone. I know it was an inside job, but it could have been so many different angles, that I just charged it to the game. My homeowners insurance conveniently found a loophoole, so I got zilch for my trouble. About 8 years of blood, sweat, and tears down the drain.

Needless to say, I have scaled back operations quite a bit. Luckily, they missed my MPC 1000 (which is CFW's out, BTW 8) ), since it was buried under a pile of videogames in my TV room. Other than that, I was forced to go software...I built me a monster (at the time) Intel dual-core rig and now use Emulator X, Kontakt 2, and other assorted soft synths and samplers. The learning curve was brutal, but 2 years later I can say that I kinda glad my hand was forced to 'upgrade' so to speak.

Moral of this story? This too shall pass, whether you find it or not. It sucked holy ballz for a loooooooong time, but when you do finally make peace with it, you'll work on getting a new rig/setup, which will ultimately push you harder as a producer. So, in the end, it's all to the good.

Keep ya head up mayne....you can only go up from here. ^______^

PS: Only 3 emoticons!?! Who phucked THAT up?

All the studios in Atlanta... They got up off that Sh.t within 2 hours of getting it, or they are at home right now, tryna figure out how to connect it all together, produce, and be the next hot sh.t out of ATL......

When I left my spot tonight, I checked all my locks at least 2 times. Thinking about what had happened to BxJaze.
By moyphee Mon Jun 23, 2008 6:07 am
In both cases, I think they are indeed connected to someone you know. This also means that all of the gear in question is in close proximity. Most dudes have a lot of people in and out of their lab.

Find the dudes that knew your schedule and have seen your studio. Your gear is close by.

Keep your serials on a card so that when you see someone in your circle with the same model you can compare them. What you do after that is up to you.

Most chumps will snitch on their source or partners if caught with the stolen property.

 Something like this hidden away behind some drapes ,under a table or corner is loud enough to disrupt a theft. Even if they disable it, it may sound long enough to get a neighbors attention and call the cops. Too cheap not to have.

There several types of standalone alarms are available dirt cheap. It'll work fine if you don't tell anyone your using it...as some dumbazzes will.

Dude,

I shared a commercial space off Jimmy Carter Blvd about 7 years ago. We were broken into 3 times. My partner was cleaned out once and I was cleaned out once. There is NOTHING like getting a call from the police to come to your studio at 3 AM and deal with that. Anytime time you invite potential clients to your space, they are likely just canvasing the place. Even with alarms, locks and a county police station across the highway, they did some damage in less than 10 minutes. At the time, there apparently was a group out of LA busting up studios. They were caught after breaking into Red Dragon downtown on a Friday afternoon. They were not aware of the gridlock that happens in the ATL and became easy pickins for the cops. Hope you had insurance. Karma will take care of them one day.
By 4dahaterz Mon Jun 23, 2008 4:23 pm
Yeah, thats true.... but thats why you definitely need Insurance because anythings bound to happen to your stuff

Check these peeps out http://www.musicproinsurance.com/

You could be transporting your gear, and they still will cover it, even if it gets stolen at another studio

I don't know, Lamp were you the one a couple years back that started those threads that said

Pic's or your gear or list your gear

then started another one called

List the address of your studio to help us network

next you had one called

What are your work hours

then the last one said

Are any truck rental places in your area any good.

Seriously people don't take this sh*t lightly.
