I found out how to get the programs, mid, and sounds over to the MPC5K from the MPC2000XL.
First I had to save everything on the internal zip drive on the MPC2000XL, then put these disk in an external zip drive usb to the computer. They files will never need to be ready by the computer by opening the external zip up on the desktop. While the MPC5K is connected via usb, I copied all the sounds and programs one by one to a folder in the MPC5K from the mounted external zip. Once everything is copied over, you need to re-build the programs on the MPC5K (load the zips back into the 2000XL to use as a guide for building the new programs on the MPC5K) Once re-built, save the programs. This allows you to re-configure the APS. based on the re-built programs on the MPC5K. The mid. sequence will play in the MP5K if it was saved as a midi-1 type sequencer on the 2000XL.
It took me 15 hours and counting but I got all my old stuff from my 2000xl working like a champ in the MPC5K. You may have to edit some of the sounds, trim, velocity, pitch, ect . It's so much faster and organized with the hard drive and usb functions. Its nice to have backed everything up from the 2000XL to the MPC5K, it can be done just a process but its worth it in the long run.
The 2000XL is great but the MPC5000K is a whole new blend of creativity now.
