I know pro tools 9 doesn't need an interface, but for me it runs better and the volume control is much quicker to use with the hardware. Also, triggering reason on the stock soundcard has too much latency. So I need the mbox anyway for the asio drivers, which offers virtually 0 latency midi triggering in reason and pro tools. So now to also have an iLok hanging off my laptop sucks, especially when sitting on the couch moving around getting comfortable which can easily bend the dongle and break something inside the USB port (happened to my laptop already). So now that's an mbox and iLok for pro tools, now if I upgrade to reason 6, I need an additional iLok. That's 3 **** things hanging off my laptop, which only has 3 ports btw. A hub would work, but if I have the thing in my lap or at an airport or on a plane, portability isnt as easy with a bunch of cords and dongles dangling. However, for a stationary desktop setup, it's no big deal.
But again, my main issue with the iLok is that avid only allows you one license. I'd love to have a spare.
