well i setup my mpc and cubase just like it said using the page Lampdog provided but for some reason when I hit the start button on the MPC it plays for 2 seconds and stops. The MPC is the master FYI....any advise?

yeah, set it up properly. if you set it up like they said then cubase has to be set as the master.

MPC5000 / MPC2500 as Master, Cubase / Nuendo as Slave
Use a MIDI cable to connect an available MIDI OUT of your MPC (such as MIDI OUT A) to an available MIDI IN of your MIDI interface.

Using MIDI Time Code (MTC) & MIDI Machine Control (MMC):
In Cubase LE4:
1.Navigate to Transport > Synchronization Setup…
2.Under "Timecode Source," choose "MIDI Timecode."
3.Under "MIDI Timecode Source," choose the MIDI IN device port to which you connected your MPC.
4.Press "OK."
5.Enable External Sync by choosing Transport > Use External Sync or you can press the Sync option in the Transport Panel. To view Transport Panel, press F2 or select Transport > Transport Panel.
On the MPC5000 / MPC2500:
1.Go to the MIDI/Sync menu.
2.Set "Sync Out" to the MIDI output port on the MPC to which you have connected your MIDI cable (e.g., "SyncOut: A (Master)").
3.Set "Mode" to "MIDI Time Code." Set "Frame Rate" to "30." (Note: Do not use "30D" which is a drop-sync and is intended for video equipment.)
4.Set "Send MMC" to "ON."
5.Press play or Play Start on the MPC and Cubase / Nuendo should now be playing in sync to the MPC.


This is how I have everything set up. Ideally I would like to hit Record/Playstart on the MPC and then Cubase starts recording what I play on the MPC. Are there more setting that need to be changed in Cubase to achieve this? If I set the bars to 8 in the MPC, how do you get Cubase to loop also? Please send all suggestions for me to try because I have been working on this for 2 days now with no luck.

so really there's no way to achieve that? seems strange that PT and Logic can do this?

see if there is a "record on input" feature in cubase. I have seen the feature in other DAWs but I am not sure if cubase has it.
