MIDI Sources, I think, you just want to see what MIDI is coming into the computer from the MPC, when not hitting pads, and when hitting pads.

Okay now for some reason i get no readout whatsoever no matter how i connect the midi interface......should logic be on?

No, you don't need Logic running at this stage.

You are just trying to get MIDI note on/off messages coming into the computer from the MPC.

should i have any certain settings on the mpc or just default from when i power up the mpc?

You need to set the active track in the MPC to S:MIDI:1A, as discussed earlier, to send MIDI out of the MPC MIDI Out A, on channel 1.

Okay everything on mpc is set

S:MIDI :1A-Device01

Only connected the MIDI USB in to mpc out A

MIDI monitor will not allow me to check the box titled MIDI sources or Spy on output to destinations

Is the USB-MIDI interface still showing up in the Apple Audio MIDI Setup utility?

In Apple Audio MIDI Setup utility it does not show up under device list only MIDI studio window.....Although it never showed up in the device list....

It will not show up in the Audio Device list.

It is a MIDI interface, not an audio device, it will only show up in the MIDI Studio window, that is normal.

How should i connect the mpc to usb midi for the handshake?

do i connect my in and out from mpc to the in and out on port 1 of usb midi device or do i use the out on port 2 of usb midi device?

You really don't have to patch in an MPC device in the MIDI Studio window.

The USB2.0-MIDI interface icon in your screen capture above is greyed out, which means that the Mac is not recognising it at the moment, for some reason. When properly connected/powered, it will not be greyed out like it is at the moment.


And again, when plugging it in, you only need the USB-MIDI cable IN plug to be connected to the MPC MIDI Out A port.

Leave the USB-MIDI cable OUT plug disconnected.


If you want to patch it in within the MIDI Studio window, even though it will not really make any difference, drag a cable from the output/up-arrow on the MPC icon, and connect it to input 1/up-arrow on the USB 2.0 MIDI interface icon.

Ok now i have the USB MIDI patched correctly and highlighted correctly


I also have the USB MIDI in cable connected to the mpc out A and the other cable on the USB MIDI which is an OUT is not connected to anything.
MIDI MONITOR is now allowing me to check the box that says MIDI sources and it has auto checked a box titled Port 1-MPC2000xl in the drop down menu but i am getting no reading from MIDI MONITOR

OK.

Now, run MIDI Monitor, see what it displays with the USB-MIDI cable IN and OUT plugs not connected to the MPC.

And then plug the USB-MIDI cable IN plug into the MPC MIDI Out A port, and see what MIDI Monitor displays.

Make sure that you have set the active MPC track to S:MIDI:1A.

absolutely no read out from MIDI Monitor with the USB MIDI OUT cable unconnected & IN cable connected to the MPC OUT A

Also no readout when the USB MIDI cable is completely disconnected from the MPC
