givin up the mpc for software

man no disrespect but you need to do a lil investigating on your own,every company has videos of their products out there.one guy likes this another guy like that that.....but we can't really make an intelligent choice for you.all software and hardware is usable and has features that you'll like.but keep in mind,the process you gonna have to go through to get that sample and sound you like.I use reason,but I also have to take extra steps to chop my sample's.some software don't come with inputs for sampling directly into it like the mp.do your researching,go to youtube watch videos,and go to the store's and talk to a salesmen before you sell your mp,but don't tell him thats your plan,cause you'll walk out with something you really don't like and can't take it back.

I would suggest Live also. For me its the most 'musical' DAW with a faster, more intuitive workflow than most of the others out there - I've used Cubase too.

Currently I'm using my MPC to control and sequence Live - basically using Live as an effects rack and host for VST's.
I record samples from my 1200, via preamps directly into Live, chop them up using Slice To New MIDI, make adjustments (filters, eq, start/end points etc), then sequence the newly created Drum Racks from my MPC.

Its the most enjoyable way of working for me.

that's prolly cuz making beats using FL is too easy

im really enjoying using reason+record+recycle... reason combine with record make a super program, and instead of vsts you got refills...

Ive never liked Reason.

I was one of those dudes that sold the MPC to fund software. Got myself Live. I am still coming to terms with some of it's workflow and what it can do, but I have managed to quickly scribble down 8 or 9 different beat ideas using just Live, my laptop some mp3 samples. No extra hardware required at this point (using the keyboard as a musical keyboard)

I've got a version of Logic to demo tonight, and see what that is like. I've always fancied the look of Logic; but whether or not it works for me is another thing.

And as a sidenote....I do miss using the MPC sometimes; I probably would've kept it too, but at the time I did'nt have the hardware to accompany it to make it really work for me.

I agree with juke a lot of these new jacks want to make" insta- beats " in hours and once they can't they end up giving up and turn to SOFTWARE , The results show with today's music and hundreds of videos on YOUTUBE . Be creative be different every producer known and unknown did not start with thousands of dollars with gear, Hiphop did not start with the sp1200 it started with just two turntables and a MIC. Learn your gear before selling it . RTFM, Learn about production Synthesis.

That's easy: computer.

You need records to sample if you just take an MPC, whereas most DAW's these days have built in instruments

i sold my mp, copped a apc and mpd, jumped on to ableton, learned my way around well after around 3 weeks. returned all that gear back, now i have nothing... i'm on a hiatus until i get money to get an mp again.. it'll be the last one i ever get, cause it's the last piece of gear i'm sticking with.

it just wasn't the same. you'll wanna sell all those features down river the minute you realize you sold out the main reason you got in to making beats, for fun.

just my two cents. i wouldn't be surprised if you do the same thing, but then again dif'rent strokes..

hand drums & a recorder.........unless there is ample electricity on the island, then the mpc.......

cause with a cpu i'd want internet access (high speed, **** dial up) and that would require fiber-optic or a phone line and im sure the electrical power on the island would be tough enough as is
