I did but it doesn't mention it so I guess you can load your own sounds into any of the drum machines.

Either way I guess it doesn't matter. Im retired from music lol.

Several of the reviews I read was users wanting it to be able to sample.

The official page never mentions sampling.

Leads me to believe, nope.

Retired or not you still love music and that's what counts. 8)

Only got an iPhone 4s for now. Currently running BM2. Would like to be able to mono left or right channels on samples like you can on some MPC's. This isn't possible on BM2. Is there an app I could use in conjunction with BM2 that will allow me to do this and send the audio back into BM2? Is there a beatmaking app that has the mono L/R functionality?

Is there anything out there now that beats BM2 overall?

So what do you guys think, io dock or io dock 2?

Got a ipad 2, currently using it just for Thor but planning to add Samplr and Beatmaker 2.

What's the io dock ii really add except for thunderbolt? I don't care about that because i'm still on a 30-pin.

No video output seems like a big step backwards...

Nope, not until Cubasis adds a sampler or iMPC Pro turns out to be everything we've all hoped and dreamed for.

Future iOS compatibility and product support, I suppose. I also heard that sysex was added to this one too but I heard that second hand so you'll want to research that on your own if that's a thing for you.

OK so I'm still not seeing any benefit to me as long as I'm on my dinosaur iPad 2.

Thanks for reply. I noticed thunderbolt corrected to lightning in the quoted text from my post, thanks for the heads-up. I need to read up on these new connectors. My laptop has thunderbolt ports but I haven't used them yet.

On the contrary, iOS changes so much from version to version that investing in supported hardware does make it worth it. For example, when the IO Dock 1 was a few months old, Apple made an update to iOS 5 and broke the compatibility to the dock and the OS. That's what kept me from buying one in the first place. Alesis or whatever parent company did eventually fix it, but still, :WTF:

Also, who knows, you might invest in a newer ipad, in which case you will want the newer dock. But only you know for sure what you need, what your situation calls for, and what suits you best. :nod:

This is maybe a king of boring question but is there a good multi-timbral synth that has a good range of sounds for sketching out tracks - something like a big ole ROMpler? I've been using Beatmaker 2 as a 'sound module' if I'm away from my hardware synths but wondered if there was App specific to the task?

Also checkout BS-16i which can play Soundfonts. There are many free high quality Soundfont instruments available.

Sampletank came with my purchase of irig midi, sampletank is pretty good, not the greatest but it does it's job decent enough. In app purchases are avail to.
