Tablet apps

^ that looks sick. I'm buying that on payday. I just bought Egoist last week and I love it. Yesterday, I got a Novation Launchkey 25 and I'm having more fun with it than I've had with any hardware synths I've previously owned. Since I've owned the iPad Mini, all my hardware collects dust. Now it all feels complete with the Launchkey.

Magellan is also on sale again at 66% off for $4.99. So I finally bought it. I have Magellan Jr for the iPhone. But as I was hesitant to avoid redundancy, I remembered that I can swap patches between both. So if I'm on my lunch break at work, I can create some new patches and load them on the iPad when I'm home.

It's worth the price of an iPad to rock Cyclops and all the more high-end apps these days. I don't even buy Rack Extensions for Reason anymore (and I haven't in a while). I don't buy VSTs either. iOS apps provide more bang for the buck. Ironically, I've been more interested in them than hardware. So that says a lot, coming from me.

i totally see where you are coming from REs and VSTs are way more expensive then apps. and apps are more hands on and straight forward and you can just sample that shit, even midi it up to reason.. I just wish iPads weren't made so cheaply. oh well, you kinda made me see more worth to them.

I copped an iPad Mini 2 for $250. Yeah it's a bit small. But it's got a decent amount of processing power. I really hope Apple release an iPad XL or something larger than the original. But either way, with all you can do with an iPad, it's totally worth the investment at this stage of the game.

Have you been running your apps with your mini? I am drawn to it because the size but that could also be a double-edged sword.
Been using an Android tablet with Audio Evolution Mobile for portable multi tracking to great effect lately, can only imagine Garageband feeling better (not to mention turning it into several synthesizers as needed, not shabby!).

I run all my apps with the iPad mini. It's difficult to read some parameters in some of these synths. But once I have things memorized, it becomes less of an issue. Keep in mind that my vision isn't as good as it used to be when I was younger, and I probably need reading glasses by now. i can fit the mini and a lightweight pair of Bose headphones in my coat pocket. So it's my portable weapon of choice, being much smaller than my SP-404SX. But I don't sample with the iPad. It's more of a synth arsenal for me. Being able to create synth patches anywhere and syncing up to Reason when I wanna record is definitely more inspiring of a workflow. It's really simple too... No cable clutter. Just a USB cable running MIDI and digital audio. Another workflow improvement is having Thor for the iPad. Being able to swap patches between the app and in Reason keeps things more inspiring as well. Thor is more fun now than it ever was. It's also not too small for the mini.

i would get the mini if anything,. my android tab is a 7inch and I love the size, i love building synths in caustic. building synths with samples in caustic is super fun and at 7inches it can go anywhere.. IOS is whats up on the apps. maybe one day i will get a mini, just still a bit salty how my 300+dollar iPod touch crapped out after a year on light use, maybe one day i will get over it, but until then caustic is my reason4 on android lol. we might have to buy an iPad for our business cash register to ring customers up, i told my woman she better keep me off the register, and she knew exactly where i was going with that…. i think its crazy how far some of these apps are coming, even on an android with caustic I've created some crazier and more growling synths faster then in reason.. its a win win for us all

I still haven't bought Caustic yet. But it's on my wish list. Sorry to hear about your iPod Touch crapping out. I still have my 4th Generation. But the battery life sucks. Good thing about the iPad mini is the battery life is around 10 hours. When I have the Novation Launchkey 25 connected, it barely affects the battery life.

Looks like it'll be perfect for me. Some of these apps have a lot squeezed in to a small space. I'd totally upgrade to an iPad Pro ASAP.

If you have an iPad Air, beware of this version crashing on you. Im not sure about the other models. I might just buy it now, since it's half off and it'll get fixed eventually. I really wish I could use my In-App purchases from the iPhone version since I bought all of them except for the MIDI Out.

So far, so good with Animoog on the iPad Mini 2. No crashes. Much easier to work with than the iPhone version, due to the size and layout.
