I think I see what your problem is....
You misunderstood SPDIF and ADAT...
ADAT = 8 digital channels 4 left and 4 right.
SPDIF = is ONLY 2 channels just like your main out L+R.
Some interfaces if there is an adat then ONLY 1/2 can be used as spdif.
But if you configure for adat then all 8 will be adat, same connector maybe but different config.
So if you are on spdif then you ONLY get 1+2 clear and good. All the others will not be used with spdif. This is what I've witnessed on many interfaces.
again....
