I have bought Pro Tools 11 to use as a sound module and other goodness with my mpc 2500 and wow.. its such a pain in the ass to use.
I bought the tutorial by MPC-Tutor on syncing mpc to pro tools (good tut btw) and I got stuck as to playing sound from my instrument tracks like the piano insert.
I couldn't play the keys of the piano with my mouse.. the keys weren't even depressing - but I could turn the dials in the plugin - no sound was producing when I was drawing in notes on the waveform.. nothing - it made me confused as to maybe my connection was wrong..
After spending days.. yes.. days.. looking over my hookup and determining everything on my end was correct.. and uninstalling completely (deleting pro tool folder/file remnants after uninstall) the insert still was not working or producing sound.
So after hunting for a solution I found that apparently deleting the preference files in appdata > roaming > pro tools should solve the problem. It did. The insert was producing sound when I used my mouse on the keys for the piano insert.. and I now got sound when pushing the pads on my mpc from the piano insert via midi.
Awesome, I thought... now I can carry on with this tutorial. So I finished the rest of the section/chapter I was reading and everything worked as said.
Today, however.. I am back at square one with the insert not producing sound etc - I looked back in the destination where the preference files were and lo and behold they were back.. I tried deleting them again and everything was back to functioning properly.. however.. after spending time with this retardation I have come to realize that in order to use pro tools and the plugins/inserts etc - I ALWAYS have to delete the preference files and set everything up again from scratch.. LAME.
Also.. it seems like I cant reuse project files I have saved because of this.. problem. In order to create a session I have to do the above just to get anything working - so the next time around when I use the saved project.. the inserts/plugins aren't producing sound because of these preference files which forces me to have to delete the preference files which in turn produces an error in the opened project thus me having to restart pro tools in order for it to function.. but then its back to producing no sound.. haha. It's like a continuous error loop and I can't win.. unless I start a project from absolute start to finish - but sometimes I dont have time for that shit, and what happens if I have to open the finished project to make changes?
Anyways - my system specs etc meet the pro tools 11 requirements. Does or has anyone had this problem with their pro tools daw in windows? Also.. the daw freezes a little while I make a change in the settings or even press play in the transport bar for a good 2-3 seconds.. its like the program is executing the code necessary to make the change or proceed with the function... LAME.
I'm thinking of trading or selling my pro tools and getting another daw because of this.
