ADAT Interfaces - old vs. new

Hi, I was looking to add adat to my computer as my primary connection between my computer and my recorder (a dps24).

I don't know a ton about this, but I was wondering - is there any real difference between, say, a Hammerfall DSP9652 vs a Hammerfall HDSP 9652? All I do on this computer is run Maschine software, that is literally it. I sample a little, but its mostly just a synthesizer, and I want it to hook up to my recorder with as much as possible. All I do is track from it. And it makes sense to me that a digital source, sent digitally to a digital reciever wouldn't really even have a chance to affect sound quality (at that point in the sequence), or am I wrong about that?

Is there any advantage to one vs the other? It seems like if the original could send all 24 audio i/o, isn't that all I'm really looking for?

The old version is called the DIGI9652.

Should be fine for what you are doing.

I think the main difference is the built-in TotalMix mixer in the newer version, which gives better routing options and low latency internal mixing, along with MIDI I/O.

I used to run a motu 2408 with my mac and mackie d8b. Not sure how motu rates compared with RME, but probably a touch cheaper and got the job done. Required 1U of rack space.
