Steinberg - Spectra Layers Pro 11

Anybody using this program? And if so, what's your opinion about it?

I had version 10 pro but never quite caught on to its functionality per se, until I upgraded to version 11.

In version 11 the UI got somewhat of an upgrade. Now it makes sense with what you wanna do. I mainly use it for unmixing pre recorded material, so I can add, remove, or manipulate the tracks to come up with my own mixes. It's cool as hell with what you can do with this program.

Yes. It's very good. RX is still a bit better for the target market - Audio Restoration.

So, if I had to choose I would get RX Standard over SpectraLayers, but SpectraLayers is amazing because it's ARA2 and works very well as a companion to Cubase Pro.

I still think iZotope has better Restoration Algorithms, and being able to access them via discrete plug-ins is very useful (especially if you edit video and need them there).

I do prefer SpectraLayers way of spectral editing, though.

Did you ever upgrade ? I use Spectralayers 12 and the algo for getting layers split is much better than 11. It can scrape the melodic Sax, horns, and piano much better from random jazz streams I capture . Then I can save it as a wave file to resample into the SP-1200 to get those Pete Rock pitchshifts. It’s the most obscure jazz I can pick up on FIP radio and now I can flip it into something that’s harder to get. I’ve been a spectralayers user since version 6 so I’ve seen it evolve through the years.

I have an old track I recorded through SPDIF before I was aware of the perils of digital clipping, so it has a couple of glitches... Can such tools smooth over that sort of noise ? Do they extrapolate from nearby noise-free sections ? Is it automatic or do they require the user to point them to the sections in question ?

What up v00d00! Nah, I'm still on Pro 11. As a matter of fact, I'm still procrastonating on my new DAW build. Got the parts, just haven't put the peices together yet. But I see the latest buzz on the integration of features put into Cubase 15, like stem separation, & melodic mode pattern sequencer. I usually try to stay up to date with these Steinberg products. Plus I've kinda let life take the helm these days. It's been guiding me through more ups than downs. But it hasn't afforded me the luxury of sitting down and putting together some heat like I want to. BTW, I got a wifey now and that probably has much to do with why I'm in the situation I'm in...
