Bug reports & end-user support for Akai's MPC Software 'controllers' including the new MPC Studio 2, the MPC Touch, MPC Renaissance & original MPC Studio and MPC StudioB lack.

Okay, I am a newbie to the mpc. Had the renaissance for about a month or so now and finally getting the hang of programs, sequencing, etc. I have made 3 separate sequences each one adding another element, building up to the verse.
First sequence is just the melody,
Second is melody with bassline,
Third adds the drums in,
When I go into song mode everything is fine when arranging my sequences, however when I create a new sequence with all of them together, it takes away my drums from the last sequence.
Any clue as to why or what I am doing wrong?
Any answers is greatly appreciated.

The manual isn't very good but you should read it if you are new to MPCs.

What appears to be happening with your Song is that you need to ensure your sequences are all uniform.

1. Track 1 (Melody) in ALL sequences should have the same Track Type and Program assigned.

2. Track 2 (Bassline) in ALL sequences should have the same Track Type and Program assigned.

3. Track 3 (Drums) in ALL sequences should have the same Track Type and Program assigned.

If you are losing your drums, it is due to what is going on in Sequence 1. If the Tracks you recorded your drums on in Sequence 3 doesn't match the Type and Programs for the same Tracks in Sequence 1, you may lose your drums.

I understand what you're saying a bit. But I'm still confused.
The song starts out with one type of melody, no drums, or bassline. (Seq 1)
Then adds a bassline to that same melody (seq 2)
Then the melody changes, keeps bassline, and adds drums, (seq 3)
I don't understand why I would need to have the same program on sequence 1 if the drums aren't introduced until the third. Is there no way to add drums in later in a song?
Sorry, I'm just confused as hell.

Mpc only reads track assignments in the very first track when playing in song mode. You should have your tracks lined up for all sequences.

seq1 - trk1/bass - trk2/kick - trk3/horn - trk4/piano - trk5/snr - trk6/tuba - trk7/hihat
seq2 - trk1/bass - trk2/kick - trk3/horn - trk4/piano - trk5/snr - trk6/tuba - trk7/hihat
seq3 - trk1/bass - trk2/kick - trk3/horn - trk4/piano - trk5/snr - trk6/tuba - trk7/hihat
seq4 - trk1/bass - trk2/kick - trk3/horn - trk4/piano - trk5/snr - trk6/tuba - trk7/hihat

If you do this you'll get correct playback in song mode.

No kick drum needed in seq3 trk2, fine, still leave that trk as kick but don't record a kick on it. It needs to be lined up with the very first seq in song mode.

Every sampler I have acts this same way. I'm guessing you can try this too and see if it works for you.

Gotcha. Okay I think I understand now. Thanks for the help! Just when I got a nice workflow going I ran into this damn problem.
Will try doing that and see if it works, appreciate it

Basically, Lampdog mapped it out exactly how you should set it up and the reason why.

In a scenario that:
Sequence 3, Track 3: 808 Kit

and

Sequence 1, Track 3: No program

Upon converting your Song to a single sequence, your drums will not play correctly as your converted Song will follow the settings of Sequence 1. There is a warning about this 'highlighted' in the manual.

So following your example, in seq one, delete everything but the melody.
Seq 2 delete everythign bar the drums.
seq 3 is full sequence.

When it creates the Song Sequence it ignores muted tracks, so i always delete them (or not program them as lamp said too - lamp pretty much covered it )

You have the option to Ignore or Include muted tracks. It is up to you if you want to delete tracks but not necessary. The key concept is that whatever you do, the Track settings of Sequence 1 is retained.
