akai seem to bring out products and then let them die a slow death......no 64 bit support for aksys....how hard would that be? I really dont care what akai decide lol......it is weird however, that a lot of people seem to have forgotten akai's lousy customer service record....I'm only judgin akai by past experience, espeically since numark bought em...I would love to be proved wrong, but i guess i just dont get it :wink:

Yeah, I thought that was messed up how Nukai jerked the 5k users around. They even tweeted about an upcoming update, now they're saying no need to update OS 2.0.

Now what if they came out with an MPC Andy Warhol that was stand alone hybrid? Will Nukai leave you hanging with the Ren while they focus on the Warhol?

I am sure many people can come up with "what ifs?"

What if Akai produces a solid product more advanced than anything else out there? Since I will be an early adopter....I will be saying...."I told you not to sleep on Akai." :D

Yeah, but you can't base their future soley on their history. And back then, computers weren't powerful enough like they are now to be able to do this. But this is where everything is going. They can't just keep making shit that won't sell for the sake of history. Shit, we might as well still be driving cars with wagon wheels! :lol:

What if you remember that the Mac OS has dropped total support for floppy disks? What if you want to load your MPC60-floppies to the Ren? What if the MPC60 files saved onto zip will not be copied via the 64bit OSes out there? What if I sell you some magic beans that will make Jomox create a digital version of the MPC60 like they did with the TR-808 & TR-909?

What if your laptop gets stolen? :lol:
What if the Ren software will not run at the same time as Torq or Scratch Live? :idea:
What if your anti-virus software interferes with many of the background processes that can also look like "trojan-horses"? :twisted:
What if your internet browsing habits of downloading games, and similar, comes back to bite you in the butt and corrupts your hard drive? :twisted:

Hell, what if the latest update from your OS inteferes with the Ren software? What if your hard drive FAILS? (They do that more often than you think)

This is a hard reality check that a MPC musician must now face if they decide to ditch their already stable MPC devices for software that can be corrupted or worse. Remember, the value of software drops like a bad habit quicker than the price of gasoline increases.

Think about it...

While I don't do it now since I am not doing any serious recording, I usually dedicated a computer to my DAW. I don't ever connect this computer to the internet unless necessary for updates. I don't install any anti-virus software.

I have several computers, I can attest that this does happen.
Also, my studio computer only sees the internet for updates as well. The other computers - I've had music apps on and yep, AVG anti virus will kick certain stuff the to curb, as will other protection programs.

While I don't do it now since I am not doing any serious recording, I usually dedicated a computer to my DAW. I don't ever connect this computer to the internet unless necessary for updates. I don't install any anti-virus software.



I keep my studio rig connected to the net. And I don't run anti-virus on it, not even AVG. But I don't download stuff unless it's from email from familiar friends or updates to products I own. I also stick to familiar sites like forums and youtube and shit. No torrents or other suspect shit go through my studio computer. 4 years strong, no issues.

Yeah, man. That shit got all **** up. Hard drive prices are expensive again. It sucks! Went to Best Buy to get a 500GB HD around Christmas time and it was over $100. And I just got the same one last year from there for around $60. Even newegg's hard drive prices are up there.

Off Topic:
Korg says its possibly the motherboard but can't say for sure. So now its the waiting game of waiting for this board to come in and install it to see if it works. My only other problem was the data wheel which has a poor design...worst of any highend workstation ever created IMO. Other Kronos users have had keybed issues. Visit the Korg Forums for more details.

Back to the MPC Ren:
The new MPCs will have some of the same types of issues any DAW has. You will have to just sweak your PC so it performs optimally for audio.
