Why so quiet about vintage mode?

Ive seen the videos on AKAI's new website and the ones that people have been posting here. Everything seems really promising, I am just still wondering about the the sound quality of the Ren. Im surprised that people who already have the Ren are not writing more about this.

The things that I still would like to know is:

1. How is vintage mode? Does it really sound like the old MPC's?

2. How does the quality of the built in audio interface compare to external interfaces such as apogee duet/mbox 3 etc?

3. is there really no latency on the pads? On some videos it actually look/sound like its lagging a little bit sometimes.


Answers on these questions would be greatly appreciated.

So if you own other MPC's, or had one in the past and can compare with the Ren, please drop a line or 2..

1. I haven't used the Vintage Mode much at all. I have no opinion on it.

2. The Ren's built-in audio device sounds like the typical AD/DA in a standard MPC or keyboard workstation. It sounds exactly the samples that loads into the software.



3. Yes, I know the video will obviously not show latency on the pads. But I have been using the Ren (don't even have the new pad upgrade) and its responsiveness and low latency rivals hardware MPCs. I have my buffer settings on 512 samples even though I can take it down to 64 samples. But the latency and performance of my current setting (using a Mac) are great so I feel no need to change them.......obviously, I would used different buffer settings if there was too much latency.

I own a 2000 and a 2500 and now I own the Ren and I must say I Like the pads on the Ren by far. I have had the Ren for two weeks now and I have not experience any latency so far. As for the vintage mode it works as advertised. I have compared drum sounds in the vintage mode and I certainly hear the difference. My kicks in the Ren sound very smooth and in the 3000 mode it's less smooth and in the mp60 mode it sounds more punchy and sp1200 mode sounds more gritty. I personally like the vintage mode because you can cater your beat to how ever you like it to sound. The vintage mode sounds way better than bit reducer functions I have seen in many software and in previouse mpc's.

Does the drums hit as hard as your 2000 when just in "regular mode"?

The reason I am asking all these questions is because if I can get the hard hitting sound of the older MPCs (or even my 1000) from the Ren, the nice workflow of an MPC and no latency, then Im ready to get rid of my 1000 and my Maschine.

I bought the NI Maschine in Feb, but never got used to it because of its sequencer and some other things I found to be very "backwards".. For every nice feature on the Maschine, there are 2 annoying things...

I would love to just run the Ren and Logic, so I hope they get the 64 bit thing together, and that the plug-in integration with Logic will be better than Maschine's...

Drums hit just as good if not better. I don't think any former mpc user will be disappointed with the Ren. There are some bugs to worked out but besides that the Ren has potential to be greate with future updates and added features. I loved my 2000 over my 2500 and Ren has me feeling the same love I have for my 2000.

Anybody else has something to say about the soundquality of the Ren?

To me it sounds very punchy! Every break beat i sampled just comes out punchy as hell.Imma first gen MPC 1000 user and the sound diff btwn the 2 is really noticable.The Ren to me sounds bigger and more open than my 1000.

I will tell you this: I was using Maschine for 2 years, and I had to always stack my drums just to get them to sound half-way punchy. The Ren (using the same drums--by the way) somehow sound like they are ready to go without stacking! When I switch to different vintage modes the drums really kick! Sometimes I can't even use the 3000 mode--trying to save my monitors.
