Hello together, here i am with 2 beginners questions ;)

i'm new to the forum and registered, because i sure will have some questions...

i am not new to synths, samplers and stuff and also am not totally new to mpcs.

but since i got me a mpc renaissance (which is some great machine i think) here
is my first question already:

i just cannot hook a motif up to the mpc and play it via the mpc pads.

i connect it with a midi cable, set "midi" on the mpc, set the port in the preferences,
the midi channels on motif and mpc corresponded but no notes are sent to the motif. i double checked with a drum machine, same here, no notes sent to the drum machine.

exactly like described, but only the sp 1200 45 mode appears as a plug in then, the other 3 don't.

does anyone have an idea why?

This is DjHellfire's formula:

What I did was put MPC 3000, MPC 60, and SP1200 in my VST folder. Rescanned. Then close the software. Reopen the software and they showed up. Then I added SP1200 Ring into the VST folder and scanned again. Then closed the software and reopened it. Now they all show up!

Edit: I found that simply adding all four at the same time and just doing a scan new, close software, and relaunch works. No need to do Ring mode separately. Closing the software after scanning and relaunching seems to be the trick!

Welcome to the Forums and congrats on your Ren purchase.

1. Click 'MPC' in the upper left corner of the software and select 'Check for updates' to ensure you have the most current software.

2. Then click 'MPC' --> 'Preferences' --> 'MIDI'. Then ensure 'MPC Out Port A' is set to 'MPC Port 1'; click 'Ok.

3. Connect MIDI Output 1 in the back of the Ren to MIDI Input of the Motif. Ensure the audio outputs of the Motif are connected to Studio Monitors or even plugin your headphones

4. Set your Motif in Performance Mode (or its equivalent) where you can assign Patches to MIDI channels. Ensure MIDI Channel 1 is assigned an Instrument

5. Set MPC Ren's Track 1's 'Type' to 'MIDI'. Also set 'Port' to 'A' and 'Ch' to '1'

6. Now strike the Ren's pads.

You should be able to trigger the Motif from the Ren's pads. If you hear no sound, switch to Bank D or Bank E and try again.'

to be honest, i still do not REALLY understand the difference between
"midi out" and "midi port" but as soon as i realized that it is two different
things on the mpc and not the same thing, it worked.

even if i think i did set everything just the way i did it before;)

oh btw: the ren itself has maybe the best workflow i ever experienced with any modern
equipment. so fast, so much fun. now i understand why all these hiphop veterans in the
promo video sit there with those faces: they can't believe that AKAI really made a
better mpc than they thought there will ever be ... but i think they really did!
