How Does the Mpc Studio Work with Cubase?

I'm wondering how well will the Mpc Studio work with Cubase?

- Note Repeat? Does it work with cubase?
- Play, Start, Rec, Stop controls respond with Cubase?
-16 levels function?
- Outputs from Plugin? 8 or 16?
- Quantization? Will it have the mpc feel , or still stiff like cubase?


I've been researching on the forums and about, but I have been getting vague information. I would appreciate if someone can clarify, or give me their experience. Thanks.

The sequencer will always be off by one bar as well because the Cubase timeline starts at 0 and the MPC sequencer starts at 1

On the bright side you can route pads with FX to actual outputs and then have group channels with inserts so you get the best of both worlds.

If they would just add insert FX to Submixes (and inserts on return channels, some people like to eq their Reverb) we wouldn't have as much of a problem with the whole FX track mix pad mix routing thing.

What I usually do is set a bar in Cubase, so I actually record at bar 1, so this should be fine?

Also, I see where you said you have to record first to apply the MPC swing.

Let me ask you, I heard there is a way you can make your own quantization grooves in Cubase. I'm wondering if I should do this, cause I found a difference when a quantize a track in cubase, and if you quantize a track in the mpc(i.e. 1000, 2000xl, 2500, etc).

The modifiers to set the 16 levels etc are not normal MIDI messages so they only work inside the MPC software.

Currently the Ren isn't Multi-timbral on the input side. Any MIDI coming into the MPC software only effects the selected track you are on. As soon as you move to another track in the MPC the MIDI coming in only effects that track. So in other words it's monotimbral on the input. This just means that you have to do all your sequencing inside the MPC software to play the sounds and instruments in the MPC software.

The only way that Cubase can interact with the MPC software in a useful way is to send the MPC software program change messages and MIDI sync information. So you can tell the MPC software to change Sequences etc. You can also route 8 stereo outs from the MPC software to Cubase. You can sequence MIDI inside the MPC software and route it out to play synths in or through Cubase as well.


The bar thing is really just that it's off by one. The MPC software sequencer follows the location of the Cubase transport but it's off by 1 all the time. So if you click bar 13 in Cubase you will be on Bar 14 in the MPC software.

Thanks for the adivce Airyck. So seems like it may be the way to go. My only 2 concerns are this:

- The off by 1 bar thing in cubase. I hope that doesnt throw me off when creating tracks.

- The sequencing within the plugin and cubase.

See I intend to use the software like this:

Use the MPC Plugin for drums and samples. So I might have a pitched 808 kick, snares, horn samples, and then I use Cubase to add Massive, V Station, etc for synth.

I'm gonna use note repeat alot, and hope to use the mpc software to speed my production flow.


I have a 1000, and maschine now, but the only issue with the 1000 is all the cables, and having to record all the audio to Cubase. Maschine sucks as far as laying, and the note repeat is kind of stiff at times.
