Hey everyone... I have a multi-part question- essentially some the answers I know are my lack of knowledge within the MPC/software and I know some of the answers will be "yeah I wish it did that too." Please help me sort this out.
I'm running the MPC Studio with 1.6 on a MBP Retina 10.9 w/ Mavericks... (it's what the computer had when I bought it). What I've been trying to do is figure out my workflow between the MPC (where I'm mainly doing drums and a VST here or there) and Logic PX. After getting my 5-minutes with Akai "support" the guy one the phone convinced me to do what I've been doing: run MPC in standalone and Logic in Standalone-- doing "Audio mixdowns". The problem is this works like crap and is destroying my inspiration/drive every single day.
I produce reggae and dancehall and added the MPC Studio to sequence drums because I frankly can't stand step sequencing or using EXS24 in logic (and the studio is cheap and I love the feeling of the stock pads). I love HARDWARE but wanted software power and flexibility. I sold my 1000 JJos several years ago which I feel is probably a poor choice now...
When I had the 1000, I would essentially record the main outputs Audio into Logic after creating a "1-sequence" multi-track... I would use track mute for EVERYTHING... to record each individual track into a 4 or 8 bar loop (into Logic or PT) so I could then use the power of the computer to really build the song.
Then I would record a few "live versions" using track mute in a performance/live way, where the artist would voice the tune right next to me as I layered the instrumental around his vocal (like a DJ cutting in and out or a REAL BAND doing a studio session
---> this way I could reference the live version to see what had worked well and then use my loops to go and recreate the magic and tweak here and there.build from there.
Obviously this is impossible with Studio but apparently not so with my Mac with the Ren? (being able to record the outputs of the Ren into my interface/Logic using multiple sound cards?)
What I've been TRYING to do lately is build my same 1-sequence track and then export each track using the Audio Mixdown/Individual Tracks.. the problems are these:
-The mixdown NEVER EVER exports EVERY track in the sequence (1.6 has been better but still at least missing two tracks each time)
-some of the tracks that are successfully bounced have zero audio
-when I use VSTs or lots of snares over different tracks, the VSts will miss/add or bend notes and snares will phase each other out.
In order to avoid these pitfalls unfortunately, I've been trying to work more with song mode in the hopes of just exporting a complete track (albeit taking a lot of the fun and spontaneity out of it)..
what I don't get (or is it even possible)... is how to use track mutes effectively in song mode within the mpc software. Is there a way (record track mutes maybe?) to quickly mute a few tracks within the sequence and then add the resulting sequence to my song...
Sorry that this is convoluted but I didn't want to break it up into different topics because it's all one thing in my brain...
