Steven Slate killed Namm this year, really smart guy, thinks outside the box, this would be like the JJ guy in the mpc world.

The problem is the folks at Akai are not thinking outside the box, they keep rehashing the same bullshit technology. Bring something new to the table..

Bitwig studio again , a forward thinker, a true sound design daw is on it's way..

Akai why can't you be more like the smart guys in the game?

That not only applies to the MPC but their POS MPK line the most.

If they wasn't so damn cheap, and grimey they would still have the OG coding crew down with them.

They are way too cheap and selfish to pay JJ what he's worth and will end up screwing him on his work and Royalties like they did Roger Linn.

I just reinvested my time, focus, and money into making music and figured that Akai and the MPC (having been a former user of their hardware MPCs) would still be at the forefront in terms of workflow and quality... I've had the MPC Studio for a little over a month and am about ready to give up on the "new generation" of MPCs.

When I go upgrade to a Macbook Pro with Mavericks--- when I upgrade to an industry leading DAW in Logic Pro X, I'm expecting that the Ren/Studio/software will at least be there with the OBVIOUS features to make this a serious production tool. The fact that AUDIO IS REMARKABLY ABSENT from this equation is absolutely nuts...

I've had a ball making some awesome rhythms with the Studio/software but today they just sit in the software laughing at me... Because I can't effectively track out audio the motivation is gone... Akai's support team has told me that I need to settle for Soundflowerbed as if I'm pirating streaming audio for an Ipod as opposed to producing music like a professional. And with NAMM now we get some new keyboard controllers??? It seems like the last type of product you need to release. What happened to the MAX?

The MPC mystique is gone for me. I'm not a "beatmaker--" I've been a musician and producer of music long before software instruments. The MPC Studio/software's lack of audio makes this gear NON-MUSICAL and borderline unusable for me. AKAI: please make haste and INNOVATE/SUPPORT the loyal customer... communicate to your base and at least let us know that AUDIO and Mac support is coming-- please tell us when.

The Ren/Studio presence at Namm 2014 doesn't inspire confidence. It's starting to feel like the 2500/1000 end of life cycle. I have feeling that we are going to get a few more updates and then they are going to move on.

Hopefully I am dead wrong.

hopefully it goes on the same path as ableton and turns into something big that continues to grow for the next 10 years, the controller is good enough, just they need to keep working on the software, plain and simple

I'm pretty disappointed that we didn't get view what's next for the akai software.I hope it's something good .The next 2 updates better take things to the next level for Akai sake. I still think the software has a lot of potential with what people been asking I think it can someting great.I would also like to see something out left field and innovative something has never seen before .

I've worked for various software companies, good and bad. The script goes as follows:
If you have a screaming customer who doesn't like the software you've delivered you can do a couple of things:

1 You either walk away because you can't deliver (for whatever the reason, normally resource or by design of the product)
2 Make little changes to keep things going and keep the sales machine turning over with people buying into the product dream until they get fed up or find something else

OR

1 Polish the product up and deliver new innovative features putting appropriate resource into the development
2 Work to a product roadmap, improve and innovate the product (any software company who doesn't have "a plan" is just plain amateurish)
3 Showcase the product at the biggest industry events and destroy your competition.


I don't think I need to point out which applies to NI and Akai, or what a live or dead product looks like?

IMO Its fairly obvious this current range of products wont have a big future or a long tenure at the top.

I think we'll see some very small releases and they'll move onto the next thing. If they were going to deliver the MPC we wanted, they'd have done it by now. I imagine when resource is short any future development would be dictated by sales, which is probably the KEY factor here. From my own experience most of the younger producers are buying Maschine, whilst akai is trying to fill to plug the gap in the legacy MPC hardware market with something that doesn't even perform anywhere near as functionally as the Nukai range!
In fact they're probably doing the best thing possible as business and focusing on a market they'll be successful with, keyboards with MPC pads.

Personally I've taken my old MPC projects from my original mpc2000 floppies and will clean them up. Then I'll ditch my studio to be honest, even 1.6 doesn't allow a decent workflow or mix-downs in a sufficient manner.......it's all a shame really, its all been poorly managed with all the wrong expectations set from the start.
