I've never even looked into upgrading my OS just curious if I should otherwise guess my comp is outdated for the mpc software.

Yup, I just rolled my Mac back to 10.8 because issues with Mavericks. Mainly being the loss of audio flowing thru the Ren which I use as my main soundcard for the time being. Constant crashing and trouble shooting. If you do decide to try Mavericks, just make sure to clone your current drive in case you want to revert back.
