I jus got a mpc studio how can I set up mute groups to stop one pad from playin when I hit the other

Go to ProgEdit select the pads apply the mute group number you want...and evoila!

Yeah but that does not work in specific pads...ie when you want the OH cut by the CH but want the program to be poly so there can be triggered two drum pieces at a time.

True, if you only want a few pads in the mute group.
