You're a Pimp If You Can Solve This Question...

This is one for the experts. I am a novice on this topic, but it seems like it must be possible to do this some way.

I want to use the Sound Prism Pro app on my iPad to control synth plug-ins within the Ren software, whether the setup is done with or without cables. Just the best/simplest way to do this. That's it.

PS I have a camera connection kit, which I know I may need.

The only other item you would need would be a USB-to-MIDI cable such as this: http://www.guitarcenter.com/M-Audio-USB-Uno-1X1-MIDI-Interface-101962629-i1154079.gc

Plug it into the USB plug on the CCK then you should be able to send notes from Sound Prism Pro to your plugins.

if you have a mac, you can use the network midi driver.. with no cables...

really easy to setup...

You can either create a wifi network on your mac, or make sure that the ipad and mac are on the same wifi network

then
in the audio/midi app which is in utilities in your applications folder open it.
then open the network midi icon.
create a session.


on the ipad open soundprism prefs.

choose sources and destinations

make sure the network sessions are on for both in and out(mainly midi/send out)


then assign the chord sections to the midi channels to 1 assign the bass to midi channels 1..

Go back to the network midi windows where it shows your session you created..
and your ipad should show up.. click the connect button to add the ipad to that session
Take note of the "local name"

In the ren go to prefs and add the midi in device label that "local name" ..

it should work from there.. as a normal midi controller now(sound prism.) on the selected mpctrack...

Thanks for the advice, guys. I actually have an iRig midi, so I want to try it that way. Problem is, I know almost nothing about setting up midi.

So how do I want my iRig hooked up to my Ren, and what should I do in preferences etc, to make it so that my iPad sound prism pro is controlling my plugins in the Ren software?

I don't use the Ren, but my assumption would be that when properly configured the iRig is going to appear in the Ren's or host DAW's MIDI preference's the same as any standard MIDI interface.

This page has well constructed diagrams of how to get that set up with a PC or Mac.

No, the iRig works as a MIDI interface for the iPad, giving the iPad DIN-MIDI ports.

You still need another MIDI interface for the computer, so that you can connect the DIN-MIDI ports from the iPad/iRig to the DIN-MIDI ports on the computer MIDI interface.

What you'll probably need is something like the iConnect. Which gives you midi and audio pass trough. The main problem however is, that the Ren software has no audio tracks. But maybe a manual midi channel will work. But I don't think the software works like Logic's external midi.
