Oh damn, didn't realize this was almost a year ago!!

Refreshing this for any new folks who are interested in renaming from hardware. This is not exactly renaming from hardware, but is renaming without using the mouse. It's about the closest thing to it right now since it still is not implemented in the software natively--if they could just put in keyboard shortcuts that put the fields in edit mode like this solution does, but just also have the field put in edit mode on the hardware too then I think that would be great....

If you are interested in renaming from hardware you should give it a try, it really does make renaming pretty fast and with the new track explode feature I have been flying through renames like crazy....
