Sup all,

Just got a Ren yesterday, and have been familiarizing myself with it. Sucks I'm on Mavericks and out puts don't work. But I'm good in aspect of getting a track laid out then exporting stems which is what I bought it for. Motif would take me literally 2 hours to track out a beat.

Anyhow I cannot figure out what settings to do on the Motif. I want to use the MPC as my main sequencer for drums then sync motif somehow to track into Pro Tools 1-4 tracks at a time. I tried recording midi data from Mo to MP but the only setting allowing midi out, the keys don't work under that setting.
I also have a Triton I hooked that up and I was up and running in 30 seconds idk why Yamaha makes their stuff so difficult.

Here's my gear

Pt11
Motif XF 8
Mpc Ren

Any of you guys with a Motif that could help me Is greatly appreciate it. A complete walk through on set up and workflow with motif would be awesome!!!

Thanks in Advance!

Regular midi, and the main 1/4" stereo outputs don't work on Macericks OS.

Note* because I cannot use the audio out, I can't just play live to my mixer with both units. So I would have to run the MPC as a plug in as a master in PT while running PT as slave. How the hell is this possible?

Anyone know if they plan on updating firmware for Mavericks?

Ok so I found 10.10.1 software after reading there was a 10.9 beta. My outputs are now working. Still struggling getting motif set up.

Ok so I got the mpc to control the motif but I can't play motif into mpc. Everything Ive read/watched says turn local off. It kills the keys and still doesn't record any info to mpc.

I want to work like this:

Mpc track 1 drums
Mpc track 2 motif bass
Mpc track 3 motif synth etc etc

I can do this no problem with my triton why is motif retarded???

Can anyone please help me here!!! PLEASE!

Update. Realized I downloaded for os 10.10 I'm on 10.9 So I went and installed the 10.9 update.

So MPC I'm running 1.7.2

Outputs still working! Good. Ok so out of the quick setups on Motif I selected the 3rd for computer recording?? Turned Local OFF and checked off note in and out and program change in and out. I can now record Motif to Ren BUT!!! I'm having the note sustaining issues??? I see a lot of posts on this does anyone know if there is a way to correct it or is it just something we have to wait for a patch?

I have a Motif XF and a Ren as well that I use together. I saw you mentioned using Pro Tools 11 and Mavericks. A few questions and I may be able to offer some help. Have you downloaded the latest drivers from Yamaha? There's always problems if you don't. Usually when I have issues that is the first step. What kind of interface are you using? I see where you're trying to record the midi date into the Ren. Do you have the Motif directly connected to the midi out on the Ren as that's how you control external hardware with it? If you do, then going to utility and then setting your midi to midi should get you synced up as well as allowing your midi notes to go into the Ren.
Would love to help but need a few things first.

Yes Yamaha is updated to 1.5. Motif Out to MpC in and Mpc out to Motif in via midi. Interface is UA Apollo. I actually updated OS to Yosemite 10.10 last night reinstalled MPC software for OS 10.10. MPC icon is back on the screen and everything is working flawlessly except the note sustaining issue.

As far as the sustained midi notes… i have a Motif XS and was having the same issue until i connect the motif to the Ren via USB for midi. next i went to preferences in the Ren software and in the midi tab i set the "active midi inputs" to "YAMAHA MOTIF XS PORT 1" and the "midi out port A" is set to "YAMAHA MOTIF XS PORT 1" as well….. i no longer get the sustained notes. You have to have the updated Motif USB drivers install on the computer.

That won't work for me I have multiple pieces of outboard (I haven't connected yet until I get this working lol) the unit offers midi period it should work. I think there's a setting somewhere on either end. Most of these note sustaining cases involve Motifs haven't seen a thread yet of it happening with a Korg or Roland etc.

On a side note I do have a midi sport has anyone tried connecting a midi sport direct to the MPC?

UPDATE*

Hooked up a Midi Sport Uno to USB A on Ren and to the IN/OUT of Motif all is working no note sustain.

However when in DAW using MPC as a Insert in PT, in MPC mixer sending tracks to various Audio tracks, they are recording but my midi tracks are not triggering the tracks from the Motif...
