MPC ren Hardware issues possibly? no sound from headphones o

hi, Aaron here.

Mac Mini, loaded latest Yosemite osx, loaded ram, latest Ren software update. NI komplete 6 soundcard.

I just piked this MPC Ren up and before I return it I want to make sure I haven't tried everything.

I get sound from the software to my mac - out my soundcard and it sounds great, but I notice I cant seem to get sound out of the headphones unless it's from the turntable or mic. no beats from the sequencer.

that got me thinking to check everything. so I plugged my headphones into the outputs and try that - nothing. So I tried connecting to my soundcard and tried running it through live 9 like I do a few of my hardware synths... nothing. so I tried messing with the midi settings on my mac to allow for sound to come out of the MPC etc.. still nothing.then tried my mic into the mpc to sample that way and I only get a weak stereo signal and almost all out of the side it's plugged into. this should default to a mono signal should it not?

anyway - anyone out there have issues like this and maybe I just missed something in the config or does it sound like hardware and I need to return it?

Have you tried turning the Direct Mon knob all the way to the COMP side, and does sound come out of the MPC headphone output then?

The Direct Mon knob knob mixes the output between what is coming out of the computer, all the way to the COMP side, and what is coming into the MPC inputs, all the way to the INPUT side. It is used to mix in a zero latency version of the input signal with the output of the computer when recording.

When the Direct Mon knob is any of the way towards INPUT, it is mixing the input signal in with the computer output signal, in what you hear from the Renaissance outputs, and is mixing in a stereo signal, so you only hear the mic in one side, which is normal, and that means that you probably have it turned some way towards INPUT.

If the Direct Mon knob is turned all the way towards COMP, you should only hear the mic input when in the MPC Software Record Mode screen.

Is the Renaissance set to be the input/output audio device in MPC Software Preferences/Audio?

Is it MPC Software running in standalone mode that you are trying to get working, not as a plugin within another DAW?

I had tried a combo of all that you suggested but never quite understood till you said it so well. Thank you for explaining everything! I was able to get it all going the way it should be and I now have a great understanding of this side of the Ren! I do notice a little bit of an air breeze /static type sound but I am pretty sure I saw something on this in my searches and will dig around for that but it's not that big of a deal unless it passes to recordings.
