Hi all,
I've got a 2nd hand MPC Studio from eBay, appears to be in great condition, and software/driver/activation all done no worries (Windows 7, 64-bit).
Generally it's working and it's a lot of fun. But I have a couple of questions over a few odd things I've noticed the more I work with the unit. This may be down to my PC/USB or it may be the controller, or... I need a sanity check. Afaik I have the latest firmware, the software does not prompt me to update it, according to the docs I should only do the firmware update if prompted (on software 1.8.2 btw).
- When I plug in the device a couple of the leds cycle for a few seconds. This seems to be only the first plug-in since booting the PC. I've had it cycle all the pads, about a second each, and I've had it cycle the pad-mode buttons. I leave it for a few seconds, cycle stops, I can start MPC software and all works well. One time it did not work, software did not complain but pads didn't do anything. I can't reproduce that (perhaps I accidentally leant on shift and it went to general midi mode), but a few leds cycling on boot seems to be every first plug-in after boot (subsequent plug in/out without rebooting PC does not show this behaviour). Seems strange and got me wondering, is that normal? It it some boot time check or test mode, or..
- While playing around yesterday setting sample start/end points, all pad-mode and mode buttons flashed on/off for a few seconds. Did I accidentally trigger something to cause this, I'm not sure what function would cause that.
- When setting sample start points using the q-link dials, when I come to use x1 granularity, sometimes this jumps back to the start of the sample. I've turned off the zero crossing stuff so I should be able to have full control. Sometimes it does this, other times it does not and it works fine. I'm wondering if I'm innocently doing something wrong. Still learning, so it's possible of course.
Advice/thoughts welcome!
Cheers,
LW.
