Ren 1.8.2 and Windows 8, a no go

No matter what I do, I can't get it to work... snap crackle pop at any latency setting.

Firmware latest. MPC software latest. Plugged into USB 2 port. All plug-in's disabled. Onboard sound disabled in bios.

Hardware works fine on Mountain Lion.

New powerful Dell Machine w. i7 processor.

What gives?

Did you deactivate USB 3 protocol in BIOS, too? I read that was a common problem.

I heard that as well, but I can't figure out how to do that on this Dell machine

Have you a soundcard+the mpc connected ?

No soundcard, just the MPC only. I even disabled the onboard sound in the Bios

The bios in my dell enables me to disable USB ports by location, (front, top, rear, etc), so I disabled them and left only the top (USB 2) on. I'm not sure if that actually disables USB 3 or not though.

At any rate, it will work for a few minutes, then, it will start crackling and popping. If I restart the hardware, it will no longer respond. Or, sometimes, it will develop about a one second latency after a few minutes of working on it, meaning, if you push play, it will take almost a second before the sequence starts playing, ditto if you push a pad.

Everything works fine on the Mac. What's going on here?

I had the same some time ago on my mac with a Tascam Interface. First all is ok, after a while i got latency on whatever i do, which got longer until it startet crackling. I had to restart the interface and the OS to get it all going again.
Was no Problem with the OS itself or the Software, there was a problem with the Interface Driver...(in my case)

Edit: MPC Software works on my (cheapest of the cheapest) Win8 Tablet....i cant really use Plugins because of the low ressources, but no really latency and no crackling on it when i just play around with the mpc

I had exactly the two same problems you describe because i was connected in usb 3 before.

the driver you want to turn up shows up on my system as 'intel usb 3.0 controller' or something like that.. which physical port doesn't matter, once the usb 3 driver is turned off you can use a 3.0 port and it will function as 2.0.

good luck as not all systems allow you to access the driver in question. i imagine this problem is only going to become more and more common as people upgrade their computers. if you have one 3.0 port it doesnt matter if you use a 2.0 port or whatever, you are going to have this problem. hopefully a driver update will roll through, but i am extremely skeptical as the company responsible for the rens interface design and audio driver seems to be a 3 man operation running on a shoestring budget : http://ploytec.com/

actually when i just googled ploytec the description on google said "usb 3.0 audio and more!". i don't know whether that is some kind of sick joke or an indication that maybe there will be a driver update

fdodds I did find that driver, but when I disabled it (in device manager) it says you have to restart the machine for the change to take effect, and when I do that, the driver is back again.

Kind of sucks that I spent a bunch of money to have all these USB3 ports, and I can't use them if I want to use the REN.

In fact, I've given up hope and have gone back to Mountain Lion, where it works fine.

sorry i confused things. you need to turn off 'intel usb 3.0 mode' in the computers bios, if you have that option
