I remember seeing a topic or a youtube video, can't remember which, showing how to install multiple versions of MPC software because for example, I still have v1.6 and never upgraded to v1.8.2, but I'd like to be able to use both versions (not simultaneously), but all of my projects were made with either v1.6 or prior, and I read that with the new mixer in 1.7 or 1.8 that was introduced, the mix and sound on all my projects would screw up.

I am on OS X Yosemite. If it is possible? Would it be as simple as making a copy of the MPC folder and renaming the folder and app launcher? And then updating only that folder and app?

Thanks guys.

On a Mac, if you just want to test out 1.8.2 I'd start off by making a bootable clone of your system using superduper, that way no matter what happens, you can go back to your old system immediately.

One way is to just install 1.8.2 and if you don't like it, uninstall, reboot and re-install the older version. Replace any converted projects with the backups.

Running two versions on the same system? I wouldn't do it, but you could try it as you have the clone to go back to (or try it on the clone). So rename the existing MPC app and install 1.8.2, see what happens. But the new install will replace files in other folders, including your plugins folder, the Application Support folder and the user library, maybe others, so the old app will now be referencing the 1.8.2 resources. It might work, but it will probably be flakey.

1.6 seems such ancient history, lots of great new features now, IMO time to upgrade and be done with it.

That seems so risky just so I could be secure about my projects. Im a nobody lol, no one famous or more special, but I still would want to make sure I dont lose my 300+ projects and I don't want to have to uninstall and reinstall bs. I feel like I remember somebody making a tutorial either on here with a nice detailed post, or a youtube video, I don't remember but it was either when 1.7 or 1.8/.1 came out. I don't know what I'm really "missing" but f it I guess I'll just stick with 1.6.
