Select/draw mode keyboard shortcuts on a Mac

Do these work for anyone?
Pete said via Twitter it should be shift + 1/2.
They didn't work on my MBP w/ 10.9.4, and don't work on my iMac w/ 10.11.1, either.

Do these work for any Mac user out there? I do remember they used to work on some earlier version.
